Of all the famously unmade and never materialized film projects, an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s bleak and brutal Western, “Blood Meridian,” has to be near the top of the list. But as you likely know by now, if you’re a fan of this supposedly “unadaptable” book, a new film version is already in the works. And now, a new writer has been attached.

According to new reports, Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan (“Skyfall”) has been tapped by New Regency to work on the script for a feature film adaptation of McCarthy’s novel.

As the world awaits “Gladiator 2” to hit theaters on November 22, Ridley Scott already has another project he’s in talks to direct. And it’s not exactly what audiences expect from the director either. Deadline reports that Scott is in final negotiations to direct a biopic about the popular disco group the Bee Gees for Paramount. Scott will also produce with Michael Pruss through his Scott Free Banner if the deal goes through.

Right around the time that the queer teens at a conversion therapy camp in “They/Them” burst into an impromptu sing-a-long to P!nk’s “F**kin’ Perfect,” the reality of the film sets in. This is a film trapped in the cultural mentality of that empowerment anthem’s release in 2010-2011. The slasher film’s understanding of youth and the LGBTQIA+ community does not seem to have evolved past TV’s “Glee,” save perhaps the inclusion of a non-binary character and not centering the most straight-adjacent characters.

Set at an LGBTQ+ conversion camp, it focuses on a cast of queer characters avoiding both camp counselors and a killer alike, which yes, can be a very dubious choice since we’re talking about the fragile sexual identity of teens and the parents that don’t want them to be gay.
