According to Variety, the film is based on the novel “The Governesses” by French author Anne Serre with Talbot co-writing the movie with poet-novelist Olivia Gatwood.

Since then, we’ve been trying to spread the good word about Joe Talbot’s directorial debut any chance we’ve had. And we’ve recently named the film one of our Best of 2019…So Far.

And in honor of “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” opening in more theaters this weekend, we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share an exclusive clip from the drama.

Imagine the thousands, maybe tens of thousands of other filmmakers looking for their chance at getting a movie made in line ahead of you because they did graduate and go to film school. Take those odds and then imagine having your first project discovered by one of the most respected production companies in the industry who convince one of the most celebrated prestige studios of the decade, A24, to finance and distribute it.

But the one selection we still cannot shake is “The Last Black Man In San Francisco.” The film was lauded by critics just a few months ago when it made its premiere in the snow-scape of Park City, UT. We had the opportunity to see the stunning picture, and you can read our review here. But words truly fail until you see the film for yourself.
