Jim Sheridan Will Direct ‘North Star,’ An Autobiographical Biopic Of His Childhood Featuring New U2 Songs

Timothy Scott Bogart already has a busy Cannes Film Festival, showing off his film, “Spinning Gold,” a documentary about his father, Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart, to potential buyers. And it appears that Bogart is just getting started, as he already has his following two projects lined up, according to Variety.

After “Spinning Gold,” Bogart will produce “North Star,” a semi-autobiographical drama set in 1960s Ireland by Jim Sheridan.

“Dream House” is a film we’re aware of, but it’s honestly something we haven’t taken in; news about the production has been incredibly quiet despite the A-list cast. It’s a psychological thriller about a married couple (Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz) who move their family to a New England town, only to discover that the previous occupants were murdered. Naomi Watts, Marton Csokas and Elias Koteas are also among the cast, and despite the super-generic premise and the presence of director Jim Sheridan, who’s been somewhat off his game since “In America,” we were vaguely intrigued, principally because of the excellent actors involved.

By now you must have seen the alarmingly freakish photos of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson who radically transformed his body by losing 54 lbs for a role in the upcoming film, “Things Fall Apart,” a picture he actually co-wrote with Brian A. Miller about a football player with cancer. Mario Van Peebles is directing and co-starring along with Ray Liotta.

Emaciated and looking like an extra from “The Road,” or a sleep-deprived Christian Bale from “The Machinist,” Cent apparently lost the weight by simply starving himself, subsisting off a liquid diet, and employing three-hour-a-day treadmill walks for nine weeks.

Fernando Meirelles, Guillermo Arriaga, Jim Sheridan & Gabriele Muccino Visit ‘Cities Of Love’

Last year, producer Emmanuel Benbihy revealed that follow up anthology projects to “Paris Je T’Aime” and “New York, I Love You,” set in Shanghai, Rio de Janiero and Jerusalem, were already in the works. And indeed they still are. Currently walking the Cannes marketplace looking for buyers, reps for WestEnd Films, who have the worldwide rights to the project, have announced an impressive slate of directors for the upcoming films.

First up, and set to start shooting in October, is “Shanghai, I Love You” with Jim Sheridan, Lu Chuan (“Kekexili: Mountain Patrol”) and Gabriele Muccino (“Seven Pounds”) among the first of the confirmed directors.

Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson and his cellphone plan hustling brother Luke are set to lend their voices to the animated film “Turkeys.” The film is about two turkeys who time travel to the first Thanksgiving in order to stop their species from becoming part of the menu. The film was written by John J. Strauss (“There’s Something About Mary”) and will be directed by Ash Brannon (“Toy Story 2,” “Surf’s Up”).

Katherine Heigl has succeeded in pissing off the producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” enough that its widely expected that it will be her last season the “E.R.”-lite show.

Rachel Weisz Tops Off Cast For Jim Sheridan’s ‘Dream House’

Rachel Weisz has been added to the cast of Jim Sheridan’s psychological thriller “Dream House,” which already has Daniel Craig and Naomi Watts on board.

The actress will play the wife of Craig’s protagonist, a publisher who relocates his family to a quaint New England town only to discover their house saw its previous inhabitants brutally murdered. Watts, meanwhile, will play a neighbor who was close with the previous family.

Sheridan will direct from a script written by relative unknown, David Loucka, who thus far only has an eclectic handful of film and television projects to his resume dating back to the late 80’s.

Naomi Watts Joins Daniel Craig In Jim Sheridan’s ‘Dream House’

Back in August we reported that Daniel Craig had come aboard the Jim Sheridan helmed, psychological thriller “Dream House.” Given how nothing seems certain these days when projects are announced, we were heartened when Sheridan confirmed that it was still going shoot next when he ran down his slate of projects in December.

Well, the production continues to move forward as Naomi Watts has joined the cast. The film is about “a father (Craig) and his family who are disturbed to discover that their beautiful new home was the site of another family’s slaughter, believed to be at the hands of the husband who survived.” Watts will be playing the neighbor and probably romantic interest as well.

We’ve already covered both actors (3 parts) and actresses in our “will they ever win Oscars” series, so now we’ll take a look at the men and women behind the camera. The Best Directing Academy Award, while prestigious, can sometimes elude even the most skillful directors. Neither Stanley Kubrick, who was nominated four times, nor Robert Altman, nominated five times, ever won the award, and it took Martin Scorsese six nominations before he finally went home with Oscar (and of course it was because of these earlier mistakes that he probably got his award at all for the lesser, “The Departed,” but thankfully he is still with us and going on strong.)

Here, we’ll present 20 directors that have already proven their worth but have yet to be rewarded by the Academy for it.

With “Brothers” barely a week into its theatrical release (btw, we really liked it), director Jim Sheridan is ready to talk about he’s working on next. The dudes over at Dark Horizons managed to get the director to chat about the handful of projects that his name has been attached to over the past little while to sort out the wheat from the chaff.

“Dreamhouse” – This is the next one that’s going to go in front of cameras, and Sheridan hopes to get things rolling in February (which pretty much means he’s not going to be hosting any Oscar cocktail parties for “Brothers”).

Review: ‘Brothers’ Is A Harrowing Post-War Drama Anchored By Knockout Ensemble Performances

Ever since the United States’ involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hollywood has released a steady trickle of documentaries and feature films that all take a strong moral position on the war, that has largely not made for very good cinema. The problem with the “Iraq war film” (which is pretty much a genre unto its own now) is that it more often than not trades politics for plot, resulting in stridently voiced material that doesn’t necessarily make for compelling viewing.

A couple of days ago, we reported that Leona Lewis was lined up to sing “I See You (Theme From Avatar)” for um, “Avatar,” and some people were sort of (hilariously) offended that we would dare to suggest that song might be anything but good.

Well, we’re ready to take on another round of bloggers (and U2 fans) furrowing their brows at us, because we’ve actually heard U2’s “Winter,” written for the forthcoming Jim Sheridan film “Brothers” and it sucks.

First Reviews Of Jim Sheridan’s ‘Brothers’ Surface

OK, no one’s really seen it yet, but two “reviews” of Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” are out there. One, from the L.A. Times, is not really a review per se and it comes from Oscar blogger Peter Hammond so proceed with caution because as we all remember, his taste is rather crap and he was named the Movie Quote Whore Of The Year in 2007 by EFilmCritics.

As discussed several times here, “Brothers” is a remake of the 2004 Danish film, “Broder,” directed by Susanne Bier.

New Trailer & Images: Jim Sheridan’s ‘Brothers’ With Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal & Natalie Portman

As evinced by a post yesterday, Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” is a movie that intrigues and interest us. Everything we’ve seen hasn’t necessarily blown us away — in fact, kind of the opposite — but because we’re big fans of the original 2004 Danish film, “Broder,” directed by Susanne Bier, which this one is based on, we’re curious to see where it goes.

It’s essentially a tale of two siblings, one a black sheep (Jake Gyllenhaal in this version), and one the responsible father (Tobey Maguire) who is shipped off to Afghanistan and then believed dead when his helicopter goes down over enemy lines.

Tobey Maguire Got All Serious & Method For Jim Sheridan’s ‘Brothers’; Film Is Partly “Gloomy”?

Can a film that has pretty much zero Oscar buzz come out of nowhere to get some? Seems unlikely especially in the case of a film like Jim Sherdian’s “Brothers” that feels like its been delayed indefinitely (despite the insistence of some who claim it was simply just saved for the following year).

The script we read for “Brothers” was ok, it didn’t blow us away and the trailer didn’t quite dazzle either (Tobey Maguire appears as a bit of a one-note villain), but we’d be lying if we said the film didn’t intrigue us.

Danish Director Susanne Bier To Direct Rom-Com ‘Which Brings Me To You’?

Whoa, here’s a major change of pace.

One of the more exciting and interesting directors to come out of Denmark in recent years (aside from the obvious Lars Von Trier and folks like Lone Scherfig, Niels Arden Oplev and Nicolas Winding Refn)?

Definitely Susanne Bier. She’s been three for three (at least) in the last few years delivering a trio of great pictures including “Brothers” (now remade by Jim Sheridan and coming out in December), “After the Wedding” (another great Mads Mikkelsen performance, and more importantly it scored an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film) as well as the underappreciated Benicio Del Toro-starrer, her English-language debut, “Things We Lost in the Fire” in 2007.

Daniel Craig Joins Jim Sheridan’s Psychological Thriller, ‘Dream House’

Jim Sheridan’s long-awaited remake of Susanna Bier’s “Brothers” finally hits theaters in the late fall on December 4, but that doesn’t mean the Irish dramatist is resting on his laurels.

He already has the next project in line and it sounds like a change of gears for the director, who is generally of the personal character study persuasions like, “In America,” and “My Left Foot.” On tap next for the director is a psychological thriller called “Dream House,” for Morgan Creek — evidently their first production in three years.

Here’s your first look at the minimalist and austere poster for Jim Sheridan’s “Brothers” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire.

The film is a remake of the haunting 2004 Danish film, “Brødre” by Susanna Bier (“Things We Lost In The Fire,” “After The Wedding,” the 2002 Dogme film, “Open Hearts”) which starred Connie Nielsen (the character Portman will play) as the veritable lead in a love triangle between two brothers (Ulrich Thomsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas).
