He’s not alone, though, as The Browns accompany their dear friend on this personal quest. ‘Peru’ sees director Dougal Wilson taking over for “Paddington” and “Paddington 2” helmer Paul King.

Keira Knightley voices the central character, with Jim Broadbent, Brenda Blethyn, Sam Claflin, Eddie Marsan, Helen McCrory, Sophie Okonedo, and Mark Strong rounding out the cast.

You could dine on nothing but lard for twenty years and still not develop the hardness of heart necessary to avoid being won over by Roger Michell‘s “The Duke,” a ridiculously charming British comedy that dunks a gamely accented prestige cast into an appealingly milky true story like so many digestives into a warm, well-earned, early evening cuppa.  With the shaggy-dog tale of the 1961 theft of Goya’s portrait of The Duke of Wellington from London’s National Gallery reworked into a zippy screenplay by playwrights Richard Bean and Clive Coleman, all Michell really needed to do was find the perfect actor to embody the lead character’s daffy, unsinkable spirit.

Led by Michael Caine, the crew features more of Britain’s finest aging actors, providing a masculine alternative to every Anglophile’s dream movie, “Tea with the Dames.” His co-stars include Michael Gambon, Jim Broadbent, and Tom Courtenay, with “Daredevil” star Charlie Cox bringing down the arithmetic mean.

Turns out, it was already made in 2017 with “The Hatton Garden Job.” The history of movies is full of dueling takes on similar stories and it’ll certainly be interesting to see which take of the infamous heist comes out on top.
