With Netflix’s British royal family drama series “The Crown” winding down, the streaming service aims to get another vital history family dynasty series off the ground. Variety is reporting that veteran screenwriter Eric Roth (“Munich”) is going to be developing a JFK limited series based on the critically acclaimed book “JFK: Coming of Age In The American Century” by author Fredrik Logevall, which is part one of a two-volume biography with the first book explores John’s birth to becoming the junior U.S.

Few characters in Oliver Stone’s “JFK” leave as indelible an impression than Donald Sutherland’s mysterious Capitol Hill informant. In just one short scene, Sutherland masterfully provides Kevin Costner’s Jim Garrison with intel about the assassination that makes Garrison realize exactly what he’s up against. Sutherland is just about perfect in the small but pivotal role, but IndieWire reports that Stone almost cast another legendary actor in the part.

Conspiracy theorists have spent more time researching their subjects than you have and have facts ready at their disposable with which to bury you in. Take filmmaker Oliver Stone, for example. Spend three hours with his 1991 epic “JFK,” or two more with his new nonfiction recap of the same material, and you’re bound to come away thinking he Makes Some Points. However, without the captivating veneer of fiction, Stone’s “JFK Revisted: Through The Looking Glass” comes off as a much more rhetorically dishonest work.

Oliver Stone and Spike Lee recently sat down together in a video chat for Variety‘s insightful Directors on Directors, where the two got to interview each other and shoot the breeze. It’s certainly an interesting pairing as Stone had once attempted to make a version of Lee’s fantastic post-Vietnam drama “Da 5 Bloods” himself.

No one is ever going to mistake “JFK” as a documentary. Oliver Stone‘s dizzying, three-hour-plus drama revolving around the assassination of John F. Kennedy certainly plays fast and loose with the facts, but the movie is never really about finding the real trigger man behind one of the most notorious murders in the nation’s history, so much as establishing that the official story has its own set of very large holes, while capturing the paranoid and anxiety-filled air of the moment.

Oliver Stone loves his country, but he is also its loudest critic. Whether tackling history head on in films like “Platoon” or “Born On The Fourth Of July,” or profiling presidents in “JFK,” “W.” and “Nixon,” and even in seemingly genre-centered material like “Natural Born Killers” or “Any Given Sunday,” Stone views America in his own unique, if sometimes contradictory ways. His track record is certainly marked by tremendous highs, definitely lows and curious middles (mostly marked by genre excursions like “U-Turn,” “Any Given Sunday” and “The Doors”) but he is never one to sit still.

Tom Hanks Is ‘Reclaiming History’ With JFK Assassination TV Series

Tom Hanks has revealed to Time that he has acquired the rights to Vincent Bugliosi’s massive 1612 page tome, “Reclaiming History: The Assassination Of President John F. Kennedy.” The book, which made waves when it was released in 2007, is an exhaustively researched argument that posits that there was no conspiracy in the JFK assassination, and that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone gunman.

No matter how authoritative the argument, the JFK assassination (and the subsequent assassination of his brother) will never be completely settled in the American mindset.

It’s hard not to imagine that most people (ourselves included) won’t know anything about the Barnes Foundation when going into “The Art of the Steal,” the electrifying new documentary by Don Argott (“Rock School”). The foundation, located in a modest manor in a suburb of Philadelphia, is home to an astounding collection of impressionist, post-impressionist and modern paintings, estimated to be worth more than $6 billion, by Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Goya, and Manet, as well as a small school where students learned to develop their artistic inclinations.

The so-called controversial director, Oliver Stone, is tackling a documentary series for Showtime to premiere in 2010. Stone is known for his probing political dramas/biopics such as “Nixon,” “JFK” and the recent “W” all of which have been subject of controversy as Stone applies his own biases to the subjects. The series, as THR’s The Live Feed], will cover many controversial subjects in American history like the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, the Cold War and more recently, the post-9/11 national security paranoia.
