2023 was a crummy year, but 2024 is coming, so perhaps there’s still hope. One of the most hotly tipped movies of 2024, on our 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2024 feature lists, is “Love Lies Bleeding,” a bodybuilding drama, romantic thriller, and crime movie starring Kristen Stewart.

The film is the sophomore directorial effort of Rose Glass, an English writer/director who came to prominence following her directorial debut, the much-acclaimed 2019 psychological horror film “Saint Maud.”

A co-production between A24 and Film4, “Love Lies Bleeding” stars Kristen Stewart as a gym employee and Katy O’Brian as a bisexual bodybuilder.

One of the first things you see in “Consecration,” directed by Christopher Smith (“Triangle,” “Black Death”), is a nun with a gun. That nun is Mother Superior, the unhinged leader of a group of radical sisters in Scotland. She’s taking aim at Grace, an ophthalmologist with a troubled history. You’ll find out why eventually. Sort of.

For now, “nun with a gun” summarizes this film’s bizarre cocktail of severity and silliness.

By now, I’d say that most people would argue that an Ultimate Edition of “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” would be shorter, and more coherent, but this is Zack Snyder we’re talking about. So of course, his much talked about extended cut is thirty minutes longer and rated R, though it’s anybody’s guess if that will mean an actual improvement to the movie. Hopefully, it can’t get much worse.

Collider has debuted the trailer for the Ultimate Edition, which is perhaps most notable for giving us our first glimpse at Jena Malone who **spoilers ahead** reportedly plays Barbara Gordon, who won’t be in Batgirl mode.

Nicolas Winding Refn‘s films always tend to spark a style vs. substance debate. The consensus seems to be that “Drive” was a perfect merging of the two, while “Only God Forgives” leaned far too heavily on mood and aesthetic, but was otherwise fairly empty (I disagree with that latter opinion, but that’s an argument for another day). At any rate, the conversation is sure to surface once again with “The Neon Demon.”

Coming to play in Refn’s sandbox this time around are Elle Fanning, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Desmond Harrington, Christina Hendricks, and Keanu Reeves in the Countess Bathory-inspired tale of a beautiful model who becomes the target of the beauty-obsessed women in the industry.
