What the audience gets here is a no-frills action-thriller: a simple story with appealing leading men who accomplish the task at hand. For moviegoers that want over and above that margin, look elsewhere. But for those that think “Plane” already looks worth the time and money, this is probably the movie one expects: the cinematic equivalent of meat and potatoes.

Well past the point where he could charitably be called middle-aged, he’s a divorced ex-con on parole, trying to stay sober, and running a tattoo business out of his trailer located in a small community of life’s outcasts, living in the middle of nowhere in a desert of California. John is trying to stay away from anything resembling trouble as much as he can with the help of his best friend and sponsor Kirby (William H.

No, we’re not talking about his persona, but rather, the character he plays in the upcoming “Blood Father.” He’s all muscle, and attitude, and hell-bent on protecting his daughter, and a new trailer has landed for the gritty flick.

Will John Hillcoat ever catch a break? Despite previously talking with enthusiasm about “The Revenant,” Hillcoat has now reportedly exited the project with French helmer Jean-François Richet in line as a replacement.

Scribe Mark L. Smith originally unveiled Hillcoat as being attached to helm the adaptation of Michael Punke’s novel of the same name, which centers on the 1820s story of a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling.

Like “Che,” it’s a two-parter biopic that stars Gallic thespian Vincent Cassell (“Irreversible,” the jewel thief in “Ocean’s 12,” Viggo Mortensen’s closeted crime buddy in “Eastern Promises”) as Jacques Mesrine, one of the most notorious criminals in French history.
