Welcome to the understatedly pensive realm that is “Dark.”

Set in the scenic, small, always overcast German town of Winden, this thriller begins with a nightmarish dream sequence and a young Erik Obendorf (Paul Radom) having gone missing.

The duo are behind “Dark,” the German language series coming to Netflix that’s generating a helluva lot of buzz. The comparisons to “Stranger Things” are already being made, but the show looks like its own unique beast.

After pouring your heart and soul into creating something original, you might not want to be immediately compared to something else that’s already out there, and successful. However, for the team behind Netflix‘s upcoming “Dark,” that’s just fine by them.

“It’s really exciting because if all those people who watched ‘Stranger Things‘ will at least think about watching ‘Dark,’ I think that’s a great opportunity for us,” series co-creator Jantje Friese told Deadline.
