The director has long threaded his characters through multiple films, mostly serving as Easter eggs to keen eyed fans. However, Lee reveals that “Inside Man” shares a pretty interesting, little connection with the stone cold classic, “Dog Day Afternoon.”

In an extensive interview with Vulture about his Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It,” Lee touches upon the themes and characters that carry across his oeuvre, and details how his bank heist movie is connected with Sidney Lumet‘s picture:

There is something intrinsically cinematic about heist films, with the best of them moving like a captivating ballet through the intricacies of elaborate schemes to get rich and get away.

Edgar Wright‘s newly released “Baby Driver” offers an homage to the rich history of heist-induced exhilaration (our review).

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Spike Lee feature film. His last effort was 2008’s WWII drama “Miracle At St. Anna” and since then, he’s had his head down in a couple of documentary projects with “Kobe Doin’ Work” about (of course) Kobe Bryant and earlier this year, he headed to New Orleans and Haiti to film a followup to his celebrated documentary “When The Levees Broke.” In addition, he also filmed a stage production of the musical “Passing Strange.”

Well, it looks like Lee is getting ready to get back into the world of feature film as Deadline reports that he is set to direct the thriller “Nagasaki Deadline.” Nope, it’s not another WWII film, instead it’s a story about “a troubled FBI agent and his desperate race to thwart two terrorist attacks planned to unfold on American soil.

Spike Lee is at Sundance promoting his live-music document of the Broadway musical, “Passing Strange,” and MTV caught up with him to try and squeeze some info out of him about “Inside Man 2.”

A lot of details weren’t revealed, but Lee did say the principal cast of Denzel Washington, Jodi Foster, Clive Owen and Chiwetel Ejiofor were all returning

Early speculation on the film said that the sequel to the surprisingly successful bank heist flick (Lee’s most successful ever) would center on Clive Owen and his gang of sharp thieves, but apparently that plan has changed, though Lee won’t reveal much.

During the press tour for Spike Lee’s “Miracle at St. Anna,” questions arose about the sequel to Lee’s most commercially successful film, “Inside Man.” The sequel has been in development for some time, which really only means, Universal said, “Hey! “Inside Man” made lots of money for it’s budget and it was hella awesome! Let’s make another one!” Now, the company is moving forward with the film after having Lee sign on to direct the sequel.
