Shia LaBeouf Says ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Story Started; Idea Is “Crazy”

The frightening reality is coming closer and closer. In June, Shia LaBeouf told the BBC that Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had just “cracked the story” of “Indiana Jones 5,” meaning they had figured out how to milk it for a fifth time.

Now, it sounds like a screenplay is moving forward. “They’re script writing right now,” LaBeouf told Showbiz Spy. “I got called into Steven’s office and he pitched a little bit to me and it sounds crazy, it sounds really cool.”

Visual Effects Society Nominate ‘Iron Man’ And ‘Benjamin Button’

The Visual Effects Society have nominated what they found to be the best effects films this year. The list is pretty much what was expected, except for “Cloverfield” sneaking in there. It’s nice to see ‘Ben Button’s effects nominated (despite the film), as the effects field is usually comprised solely of fantasy films, comic book movies and the like. But what’s more of a surprise is the absence of “The Dark Knight.” We’re not going to say we didn’t see it coming because the film didn’t use as much CGI as the others (we see that as a good thing), but still thought it’s popularity would get it some nominations.

While at the Cannes Film Festival in May, George Lucas had answered questions on the fate of the Indy series by assuring MTV news that he was going to work towards another installment that didn’t necessarily center around Indiana Jones. But just this week, he recanted this statement while admitting to MTV news that idea was pretty retarded, and in his words it kind of “Nuked the Fridge.”

“Indiana Jones is Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones,” Lucas said, conceding that he can only take his franchises so far before people stop watching.

‘The Dark Knight’ Nabs A $75.6 Mil Weekend; Fastest Film To Reach $300 Million Ever

Oh that unstoppable juggernaut called “The Dark Knight.” Will the madness never end? Not any time soon. In it’s second week of release, ‘TDK’ nabbed itself another $75.6 million in box-office receipts making it the fastest film to ever reach $300 million in the history of motion picture.

“Step Brothers,” the Will Ferrell comedy with thespian-turned buffoon John C. Reilly earned a healthy $30 million for the #2 slot and the other major studio film opening this weekend, “X-Files: I Want To Believe,” laughably came in at a pathetic fourth position with a meager, $10 million total (the film cost $30 million to make).The ABBA musical “Mama Mia” has proven to be a hit.

Guess what? (Said in storybook gentle voice:) Frequently when someone writes a screenplay, more than one version is written. Often times a screenwriter will undergo what are called draft revisions, which means editing and tweaking, and improving the story via modification, reconsideration and deeper reviews. Generally, revisions (not handed down by studio notes) mean improvement.

That is if you’re “Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skulls,” and you’re tweaked for the worse by George Lucas (or are least hired to implement his heavy-handed imperical changes).

Frank Darabont’s Shia-Free ‘Indiana Jones 4’ Script Leaks Like You Knew It Would

Man, Frank Darabont is kicking back, feeling smug and thinking, “I told you fuckers.” Now that “Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Ridiculous Space Aliens” has been released and the world has seen how sub-par, absurd and retarded most of it was, the “Shawshank Redemption” director, who was originally commissioned to write Indiana Jones 4 in 2002, has leaked the original script. Err… umm… well, someone leaked the script (gee, we wonder who?).

Some people have quickly parsed the script and said the biggest omission of the film is that Shia LaBeouf’s toughguy annoying side-kick punk isn’t in the film (we’re also glad to know we weren’t the only ones who thought the Tarzan-like jungle scene in ‘Indy 4’ was totally inane and hilariously outlandish).

Sex And The City Whips Indiana Jones At The Box-Office; Film Is Actually Worse Than Indy Gopher Treasure Hunt Film If You Can Believe It

It wasn’t supposed to happen this way and or at least almost everyone predicted it wouldn’t, but the “Sex And The City” movie trounced “Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls” at the box-office this weekend.

One could of called it the battle of the aging sexes, but the ladies took it with an unexpectedly high $55.7 million opening weekend, while Indiana Jones 4, which was expected to top the box-office again was handed its tired ass by being relegated to the #2 spot, which has to be seen a tough blow to the film that’s taken more than a few critical lumps on the chin (it did still have a respectable showing of $46 million, but obviously not enough to take the top mantle again).

There are bad ideas and then there are bad ideas. And the plan to resurrect the Beverly Hills Cop franchise with a fourth installment still featuring Eddie Murphy, but this time directed by doughy himbo fauxter Brett Ratner really takes the cheesecake.

Apparently based on the success of Indiana Jones 4, Paramount rushed to revive a once lucrative franchise as Murphy is scheduled to reprise his role as Detroit cop Axel Foley. Ratner is negotiating to direct.

‘Indiana Jones 4’ Shows Signs Of Age & Fatigue – Isn’t Crystal Or Gold, But Just More Like Meh

It’s probably not a huge surprise to hear that “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” wasn’t very good. It’s hard enough to strike lighting twice, let alone four times, and let’s fact it the third strike (“The Last Crusade”) was pretty far off the mark as well, so what did you expect? (younger revisionists will probably claim Indy 3 is pitch perfect; they would be wrong)

Yes, it would have been nice to have that final trophy on the mantle for Spielberg, Lucas and Harrison Ford, but it’s clear they weren’t really aiming for it and they’ve been pretty candid in interviews that they weren’t trying to reinvent the wheel and just have a bit more fun again and in that regard they succeed (“We came back to do (‘Indy’) because we wanted to have fun,” Lucas said.

France is basically 6 hours ahead, (it’s 12:09 a.m. as we speak/write), but presumably the screening will be some sort of gala evening in the evening (presumably?) We will the pleeb blog see it before the rest of the “world”?

Over the year’s you’ve surely heard of the legendary, but little-seen “Raiders of The Lost Ark: The Adaptation.” The L.A. Times explains the backstory about 3 pre-teens who remade the film shot for shot on the super-cheap in their backyards back in the early ’80s. The film would go on to become cult phenomenon, but rarely screened (shock horror director Eli Roth described as “the Ark of the Covenant of underground tapes.” )

The legend of the film is well-known in Indy circles.

Everyone who has a pair of eyes and saw the ‘Star Wars’ prequels knows George Lucas has shit for taste. Hell, even Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are completely aware of it and have alluded to it many times. It’s been noted ad nauseum that resurrecting the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise took a decade because all three principals, Spielberg, Ford and Lucas had veto power and the two reasonable members of the trio couldn’t agree with Lucas’ original idea, one that the AP is calling an “way-out-there initial idea.”

In the same interview Ford alludes to the alien theme that is likely running (about to ruin?) “Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skulls” and again basically mentions that Lucas is an idiot.

The tracklist for “Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of The Crystal Skulls” soundtrack has leaked and people who care to have looked closely enough have noted that the songtitles for John Williams score contain plot spoilers (what shit blows up? Indy makes a reference to being too old or gets scared of snakes?).

We honestly haven’t looked closely enough or care at all to examine what it reveals, but the super-nerds over at the newly-launched pop-culture obsessives site Videogum have done a meticulous job of wading through the bullshit of these song titles to bring “meaning” and “insight” to the “plot” of this “movie.” We pity the person that got handed that assignment.
