Damn, this is what we call a rewrite and maybe even a major overhaul. As discussed several times now Seth Lochhead’s first draft of the teenage assassin picture “Hanna” wasn’t perfect, needed much more character context and background, but damn if it wasn’t a tremendously captivating read, and an immensely quick-moving page turner. The action was sharp, the writing itself was excellent and there was definitely the genesis of a movie here. Lochhead can write and definitely knows the screenplay tenet of arriving at the scene late and leaving early (i.e.

Though it seems like a no-brainer considering she was going to play the lead of “Indian Summer” before it was canned by Universal, we’ve got to give it up to one of our readers who called this: Cate Blanchett will play the female antagonist in Joe Wright’s teenage assassin action thriller, “Hanna.”

The film stars Saoirse Ronan as a teenage girl raised as a lethal killing machine by her ex-CIA operative father played by Eric Bana.

Joe Wright In Talks To Direct Bad-Ass Teenage Girl, Assassin Thriller, ‘Hanna’

After quashing rumors that he was set to direct the remake of the 1964 musical, “My Fair Lady” written and produced by Duncan Kenworthy, Emma Thompson and Cameron Mackintosh (which Danny Boyle also passed on), British filmmaker Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”) looks like he has his “The Soloist” follow-up locked down.

Wright has worked at least twice now with Focus Features (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”), and appears to be returning to the fold after the misstep that was Universal’s ‘Soloist’ (a decent script, but a mess of an uneven movie).

Joe Wright To Direct Keira Knightley in ‘My Fair Lady’?

Shortly after his Oscar-winning success with “Slumdog Millionaire,” Danny Boyle was said to be circulating a long-gestating remake of “My Fair Lady,” written by Emma Thompson (“Sense and Sensibility”), and produced by Duncan Kenworthy (“Four Weddings and a Funeral”) and theater impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh. However, a few months ago, Boyle announced he was off the project, saying “It hasn’t worked out with me in the end, so that’s no for me.”

Flash forward a few months, and The Daily Telegraph is now reporting that “Atonement” helmer Joe Wright will replace Boyle on the project, after his next film “Indian Summer” fell apart last week, and that his usual muse Keira Knightley will play the Cockney-turned-charmer Eliza Doolittle.

It’s not going to be such an “Indian Summer” for Joe Wright or Working Title Films, as their adaptation of Alex von Tunzelmann’s book “Indian Summer: The Mountbattens, Nehru and the Dying Days of the Raj,” about the end of British rule in India in 1947, has been indefinitely delayed.

Cate Blanchett was set to play Lady Mountbatten, the wife of the last viceroy of India, who oversaw the transition to independence in the country.

Looks like British film director Joe Wright (“Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice,” “The Soloist”) will attack another British drama with Variety’s news that he’s attached to helm “Indian Summer.” The film is based on Alex von Tunzelmann’s book of the same name, which is a non-fiction work detailing the effects in India and Pakistan of the transfer of British power and their subsequent internal power struggles as new nations, with a biting focus on the main political players in all corners.
