In the wake of documentaries on Britney Spears, Lorena Bobbitt, and other victims of a crueler, “more misogynistic” press machine, the hook to these projects is a prodding at both individual and collective memory. They claim to be recontextualizations, revisions, and rehabilitations, while they are still fundamentally pieced together as amalgamations of fame and identity, with the involvement of the subject or not. There’s a thrill, I assume, in knowing where one was during or remembering the date of a particularly heinous invasion of privacy, an illusion of proximity to a person who has, regardless of their volition, become available to everyone on the planet.

The network has just announced the premiere dates for its most anticipated titles of the year, ranging from the return of Taika Waititi’s mockumentary series “What We Do in the Shadows” and the next chapter in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, “Impeachment: American Crime Story”.

Disney+ and Apple TV+ may have launched in late 2019, but 2020 really brought us the full breadth of both those streaming services wares.

So far, the men who have been chosen to portray President Bill Clinton in films have been fairly different from each other. Even though it’s not technically Clinton, John Travolta really went for it in “Primary Colors.” And in “The Special Relationship,” Dennis Quaid did his best, though a bit more subdued than Travolta. But neither of them had to tackle the Monica Lewinsky scandal and impeachment.

She’s shot four feature films, two season of “American Horror Story,” a new Netflix series, “Ratched”  (inspired by “One Flew Over The Cukoo’s Nest”) for old buddy Ryan Murphy and is currently in the process of filming an FX limited series, “Mrs. America” alongside her “Carol” co-star Cate Blanchett as well as Rose Byrne and Elizabeth Banks, among others.

After some indecision about which story to tackle next, it would appear that producer Ryan Murphy and FX have decided to focus on the infamous Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinsky scandal for its upcoming third season of “American Crime Story.”

Speaking at a TCA panel (via Variety), FX not only revealed plans to begin production on “Impeachment: American Crime Story” in early 2020 but also gave us a hint at who will be headlining the new limited series.
