There really isn’t an easy way to describe the humor of Netflix’s hit sketch comedy series, “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson.” The humor ranges from absurd to silly to absolutely ludicrous. The situations typically start as mundane, but they quickly escalate to something completely out of left field. But for fans of the show, every second is pure comedy gold.

May is yet another big month for new releases (not to mention finales as we excitedly await the end of “Barry” and “Succession” on the same night.) HBO might not yet have another surefire hit on its hands to emulate the success of the aforementioned two, but they have plenty of miniseries and comedy favorites. Elsewhere the world of “Bridgerton” continues its reign with a new spinoff series, just one of two Netflix series spinoffs with “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” getting similar treatment with “XO, Kitty.”

Apple TV+ has a number of highly anticipated series coming out — as the streamer also contends with the nearing ending of “Ted Lasso” — with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne teaming up again and Rebecca Ferguson making a strong impression on this week’s release of “Silo.” Elsewhere, we’re getting the return of fan favorites such as Hulu’s “The Great” and Netflix’s “I Think You Should Leave.”

Usually, the film honors at the WGA Awards are presented towards the end of the ceremony in Los Angeles. This year, with the BAFTA Awards the next “morning” thanks to the truncated awards season, the WGA revealed the winners right off the bat and, boy were they surprising. Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” took the Original Screenplay honor while Taika Watiti took the Adapted Screenplay Award for “Jojo Rabbit.”

While potential Oscar winner “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” by Quentin Tarantino was ineligible for the WGA, Joon Ho still triumphed over Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” and Sam Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns “1917.” Waiti overcame even stiffer competition from Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women,” Steven Zaillian’s “The Irishman” and Todd Phillips and Scott Silver’s “Joker.”

The Netflix documentary “The Inventor,” which was not nominated for an Oscar, won the Documentary series category.

As we noted and suggested in our Best TV & Mini-Series of The Decade feature, it was a pretty nutty decade for television. The advent of streaming, peak TV, prestige TV, and now, in late 2019, the new 2nd age of the Streaming Wars— thanks to the arrival of Disney+, Apple TV+, and soon, HBO Max—is going to make the content deluge even more difficult to navigate for audiences and TV critics, trying to discern what’s what and keeping up.
