From Christopher Nolan to Charlie Kaufman and Miranda July there is no shortage of highly anticipated films in September, following a rather slow summer season. With fall festivals pressing on, it will be interesting to see where the film discourse takes us in the coming months, especially as some films begin to tiptoe back into theaters.

Streaming services will still dominate for the foreseeable future though, with studios as enormous as Disney even releasing a new film through that format with the upcoming “Mulan.” It’s crazy times still to love movies but there will be plenty of offerings incoming in the near future.

She is woman, hear her roar. Singer Helen Reddy became a ‘70s feminist icon with the unlikely hit song “I Am Woman.” Now, the true story of a fight to make her voice heard along with the movement that surrounded it is portrayed in the titular “I Am Woman.” The film seeks to introduce younger generations to Reddy while also inspiring those who remember the famous tune’s striking message. The biopic premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival.

TORONTO – Chances are at least 50% of the people reading this review have no idea who Helen Reddy is. Moreover, if they have heard any of her three chart-topping hits from the 1970s it was while strolling down the aisle at their local supermarket or pharmacy. Reddy, a native Australian, was one of the biggest pop stars of her era and her signature song, “I Am Woman,” became a rallying cry for the Equal Rights Amendment fight at the time.
