It’s crazy to think it’s been almost two years since it was first reported that Warner Bros. was working on a sequel to the hit horror film, “I Am Legend.” But over that time, we really haven’t heard much else about the film. Well, thanks to a recent panel at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, Will Smith is confirming some of the details of the film, as well as giving us an update about where exactly the film sits in development.

Will Smith has been having a pretty good 2022. The superstar already landed a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his performance in the sports drama “King Richard” and looks to return to a role that audiences might not have seen coming. Warner Bros. wants to revive “I Am Legend” with a sequel. The 2007 film saw Smith playing an immune survivor of a viral pandemic that has turned humans into monstrous mutants.

Ok, we don’t want to sound the alarms or anything, but this THR report about reshoots on the Warner Bros. adaptation of the D.C. Comics property “Jonah Hex” are a little eyebrow raising.

Reshoots have been rumored for some time now, but THR confirms that 10 days of production are scheduled that will include some 12 new script pages.

Directed by Jimmy Hayward (“Horton Hears a Who!”), the project led a slightly difficult life and was originally to be helmed by the “Crank” directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, but they were eventually let go (though the screenplay and story is still officially credited to them, but presumably still went through some major re-writes) because of differences with Josh Brolin (who once called their script “awful“).

Akiva Goldsman, the black hole of talent responsible for the scripts of “Batman and Robin,” “A Beautiful Mind” and “The DaVinci Code,” is set to get into the director’s chair. In an LA Times profile, it’s casually suggested that Goldsman, eager to break into the directing world, is circling an adaptation of his favorite book, the science fiction tome “Winter’s Tale.” Written by Mark Helprin, the story takes place in a futuristic New York City at the turn of the century, as a peasant rises up to become a miracle worker.

Mike Patton, former Faith No More/Mr. Bungle frontman and current Peeping Tom/various revolving projects noisemaker has lent his howling voice to the Will Smith film “I Am Legend” according to the metal fanatics over at Blabbermouth.

The film, which we mentioned yesterday, jacks some of Clint Mansell’s “The Fountain” score in its trailer, is apparently utilizing Patton’s Cookie Monster growling and effects-heavy voice to create the sound of the creatures in this post-apocalyptic big budget late season tent pole film.

‘I Am Legend’ Trailer Bites Clint Mansell’s Steez Yet Again; This Time It’s ‘The Fountain’

Estimable film composer and ex-Pop Will Eat Itself Member Clint Mansell and has either got to be offended or flattered.

Hollywood loves to appropriate his original film music compositions to goose their trailers into having that extra heightened drama that they’re always desperate for.

We already did a play-by-play on all the people that jacked “Lux Aeterna” from his celebrated score to Darren Aronofsky’s chilling, “Requiem For A Dream” (most notably “Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers”), but he’s either thinking, “why don’t these people fucking hire me in the first place?,” or just takes pride in seeing his music being used for big budget projects (and presumably smiling at the sizable checks he receives in the mail).

We wanted to name this feature the Lamest Looking Films of the 2007 Season, but we thought that might offend someone, but man do some of the films look so, so twee, fey, loathsome and capricious in a manner that just wants to make you punch someone in the face and ask yourself, “who in god’s name is watching these movies?” It’s doubtful any of these films will win any major awards, but it’s sadly almost certain they will invigorate the currently ailing box office, cause lord knows America loves a vapid and fatheaded excuse for a film.
