It wasn’t a surprise to see that Scott Cooper had recruited Christian Bale to star in his most recent project, Netflix’s upcoming “The Pale Blue Eye.” However, it was a nice surprise to learn that Howard Shore would be providing the music.

The film, which is a follow-up to “Antlers,” is set in West Point in 1830 and is based on Louis Bayard’s novel of the same name.

Oscar-Winning Composer Howard Shore In Talks To Score Amazon’s ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Series

While it was thought, very early on, that Peter Jackson could potentially be involved in Amazon’s “Lord Of The Rings” series—maybe as a consultant— eventually, he ended up having no participation in the series. A new take on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic Middle-Earth saga, which takes place during The Second Age (Jackson’s trilogy was set during The Third Age), Amazon’s new series could have theoretically tapped actors like Hugo Weaving (whose characters were alive in this Second Age), but that never happened, leaving many to assume Amazon was severing all ties with what Jackson brought to ‘LOTR.’ But a new report from Deadline reveals a key creative figure in the Jackson trilogy is actually returning.

‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ Soundtrack Features Muse, Beck, Vampire Weekend & More

As much as the day-long, roll-out announcement for the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” soundtrack is hyper annoying, lame and sure to fatigue the very people who want to write about the release (not to mention a cheap way of milking promotion), the music is frankly the only thing that keeps us sort of mildly interested in the vampire franchise.

Even though the soundtracks are basically “That’s What I Call Indie Rock” greatest hits compilations for Wal-Mart, Alexandra Patsavas and her team at Chop Shop have managed to wrangle some great exclusive tracks for the series, with Thom Yorke’s “Hearing Damage” and Lykke Li’s “Possibility” from “Twilight: New Moon” being particular standouts.

The hype for this movie was so big that yesterday a ten-second teaser for this trailer somehow set the blogosphere on fire. We don’t get it, but then again we’re not a teenage girl invested in the choice that must be made between a vampire boyfriend or a werewolf boyfriend.

The first teaser trailer for the film understandably focuses on the apparent love triangle between Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson), and Jacob (Taylor Lautner).

‘Predators’ Gets John Debney To Compose, Howard Shore Scores ‘Eclipse’

To fans of the original “Predator” hoping that Alan Silvestri would reprise his role as composer for this year’s “Predators” sequel: you’re out of luck. Instead, Film Music News reports that “Iron Man 2” composer John Debney will be supplying the score for the Robert Rodriguez-produced film. Debney has worked with Rodriguez before on “Spy Kids” and “Sin City” as well as a myriad of other films.

No matter what you might think about the “Twilight” series, there is no denying the talent of the esteemed composers up until this point.

Howard Shore Replaces John Corigliano For ‘Edge Of Darkness Score’

Ever wonder why “Edge Of Darkness” went from being the much-anticipated Martin Campbell follow-up to the excellent Bond film, “Casino Royale,” to being a generic-looking thriller now bound for January 2010 dumping-ground season?

Sounds like composer John Corigliano has inadvertently given us the answer and it sounds like classic indecision, the hedging of bets and creativity by committee that ruined the original idea.

Originally, Campbell hired Corigliano to score the revenge picture because he wanted Gibson seen in a “more introspective and intimate way than he is usually portrayed.

One of the more elusive films of the year has finally landed a [vague] trailer. Starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis, the film centres on a priest who is accused of abusing a black student but then obviously denies it and religious, moral and authority issues ensue. That is all I know. After watching the trailer, that is still all I know.

Video Clip Apparently Confirms Guillermo Del Toro’s Role As ‘Hobbit’ Director

At the premiere of Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Orphanage”, in Paris today (January 29), a French translator for the Mexican director apparently revealed that the filmmaker has been confirmed as the director of the upcoming “The Hobbit” films.

You’ll remember just yesterday it was reported that Del Toro was officially in talks with Peter Jackson and the two studios producing the films (New Line and MGM). The important part starts around :40, see clip below.
