Apparently they’ll be more than just Hugh Jackman singing at the 81st Annual Academy Awards ceremony. Much like “Twilight”s Robert Pattinson — who couldn’t get nominated for an Oscar if he was run over by a burning school bus transporting the statuettes, but will present at the show regardless — other nobodies that have no business being in attendance, but provide vacuous star wattage for the clueless tourists who tune into movie culture once a year, like Beyoncé and Zac Efron, will also make appearances.

Anyone who predicted “Twilight” and “Bolt” would be having a showdown this weekend (erm, like The Playlist) sure do have egg on their face right now. Teen girl phenomenon “Twilight” created a huge box office story, raking in $35M on it’s first day and garnering a weekend total of $70.55M which lead it to be one of the biggest opening weekend stories of 2008 and the biggest opening for a female director (Catherine Hardwicke) ever.

As you might have guessed, “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” topped the box-office again for the second weekend in a row taking in a $15 million dollar total and bringing its cumulative gross so far to almost $62 million.

Conversely, Kevin Smith’s “Zack and Miri Make A Porno,” vastly underperformed considering it was on 2,735 screens only taking in a $10.7 million total and some, including even the Weinsteins themselves think this estimate is too high, perhaos a million dollars too high.

Under normal circumstances, if we read that director/screenwriter Peter Sollett (“Raising Victor Vargas,” “Five Feet High and Rising”) were tapped to rewrite the screenplay for “Footloose” then a flurry of hopeful excitement for a new, more sincere “Footloose” that is perhaps set in a more multi-cultural small town. However, when said announcement is listed in Variety with a sub-heading about “High School Musical” franchise wunderkid Zac Efron‘s seven figure salary, the air in our balloon is quickly deflated.

Monday morning and we’re having a lot of serious trouble finding the interest to blog about anything in full.

To no one’s surprise we’re sure, “High School Musical 3” topped the box-office this weekend with a $42 million cume. The insipid horror franchise, “Saw V” came in second with $30.5 million. The only newly released film to make a dent in the box-office was “Pride and Glory,” which came in at number 5 with $6.3 million.

The torch has been officially passed and while no, the apocalypse is not yet around the corner, a little piece of someone who grew up in the ’80s died inside (not necessarily us though). Those with massive amounts of nostalgia and affection are turning around in the office chairs (cause they’re not in their graves quite yet) at the news that “High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron has been cast to take Kevin Bacon’s iconic role in the remake of “Footloose.”

Earlier this month Bacon even gave Efron his blessing.
