John Krasinski Joins Ginnifer Goodwin In Rom-Com ‘Something Borrowed’

He’s not going to be Captain America after all, but John Krasinski looks to have quickly found something else for his hiatus from “The Office” — he’ll appear opposite “He’s Just Not That Into You” star Ginnifer Goodwin in the romantic comedy “Something Borrowed.” The plot follows a New York attorney, played by Goodwin, who has an affair with her best friend’s fiancé, and Krasinski will play a friend of Goodwin’s character.

Interestingly, the part is described as a supporting one, but the actor is tied into a two-picture deal, and he’ll take the male lead in the proposed sequel, “Something Blue.” The films are based on the novels by Emily Giffin, and the literary sequel focuses on the cheated-upon best friend Darcy, rather than Goodwin’s character, although this may change in screenplay form.

Weekend Box Office: Slashers Go Mainstream? ‘Friday the 13th’ Scores Bigtime

Throughout the history of horror, the slasher film has never really achieved mainstream popularity. Mostly, they were made in waves due to the demand of a dedicated cult of filmgoers combined with the film’s frequent low costs. The franchises borne of that era, specifically “Friday the 13th,” were hits because of their low overhead, and aside from franchise blockbuster “Freddy Vs. Jason,” the highest grossing film in the series before this weekend was the original, clocking in at just under $40 million.

Moviegoers Are ‘Just Not Into’ Staying Home: Another Impressive Weekend At The B.O.

The box office crown fell to lower middlebrow interests as the WB supersized romance flick “He’s Just Not That Into You” nailed the top spot at this weekend’s box office, taking in $27.5 million worth of sad housewives, undemanding women, and the men who made them watch the Super Bowl the previous weekend. Consider this a victory for good scheduling- with the top-heavy cast, WB had to know this would open strongly, but it would have fallen considerably had the next weekend not been Valentine’s Day, which should keep the business level for this particular slice of white people love strong and possibly, eventually, get it to $100 million.

We think it’s admirable and funny that the self-aware male actors of the upcoming Warner Bros. romantic comedy, “He’s Just Not That Into You,” have made this clever marketing viral clip about 10 Chick Flick cliches you won’t find in their flick.

It’s a smart way to market this and we love how Justin Long urges you guy to hang on and not bail on the clip once the guys (Long, Kevin Connelly and Bradley Cooper) introduce what movie they’re talking about.

We’re ‘Just Not Into’ Scarlett Johansson’s Cover of Jeff Buckley

Is Scarlett Johansson just using her movie career to continue her penchant for recording throw away covers of classic songs? For the soundtrack to the self-help film, “He’s Just Not That Into You” (due Feb 3 on NewLine Records), Scarjo has recorded a cover of Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye.” The indie-everything loving Stereogum has the track, but it’s already leaked and we got our paws on it. The rest of the soundtrack is decent on its own (My Morning Jacket, Talking Heads, Wilco, Lily Allen – safe “indie rock” that’s fine… we suppose), because bands and labels aren’t at all discerning anymore about what films their music gets placed in because a dollar is a dollar and we’re all scraping for change.

We wanted to subtitle this feature Cockpunching Your Brain Into Next Year: The Films Of 2009 Probably Destined To Make Us Unintentionally Laugh The Most. But you know, we mostly digress, but if you really want to see some of the year’s worst films look no further than what’s coming out this month in January: The year’s dumping ground for unwanted films (and in some cases February, too). Things like “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Outlander,” “Bride Wars,” “Unborn,” “My Bloody Valentine 3-D” all look abysmal and the horror ones in particular look just one step above straight-to-video quality, but you won’t find them on this list because they’ll be out in a week or two, will be discussed or are just too fucking godawful to spend even a sentence on.

What would you rather see, a WWII Nazi drama (“Good” with Viggo Mortensen) or a featuring comedy starring today’s biggest stars! These two couldn’t be anymore different, huh?

The new “Terminator: Salvation” one-sheet is a “motion poster” that apparently turns into a robot if you stare at it long enough. But we believe you have to really care for it to transform, cause it just looks like a map to us.

“He’s Just Not That Into You” stars… oh hell, we don’t care and you can read (Ok, we’ll admit any movie with Jennifer Connelly intrigues us slightly, but this one, eh…).

Ben Affleck Joins The Cast Of Mike Judge’s ‘Extract’

Ben Affleck has joined the cast of Mike Judge’s “Extract,” a workin’ for-the-man comedy that already stars Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and Mila Kunis. Well-recognizable character actor Clifton Collins Jr. has also joined the cast.

The story is about the professional problems at a flower extracting plant and focuses on the factory owner (Bateman) who’s dealing with a streak of bad luck and accidents on the job (including his wife’s affair with a gigolo).
