After years of failed attempts, a new “Masters of The Universe” live-action film is finally in the works. Both Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures developed different incarnations of the movie over the years, but following the success of Kevin Smith’s new animated series, “Masters of The Universe: Revelations,” the property has now found a new home at the streaming giant Netflix and seemingly, a second life.

Try, Try Again: ‘Predators’ Scribes To Write He-Man, ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Script For Columbia

After many, many, many false starts, script revisions and general development hell, Warner Bros. finally gave up on bringing the Mattel toy He-Man to the big screen.

The film, now at Columbia, working under the title “Masters Of The Universe,” will get a fresh script by “Predators” scribes Mike Finch and Alex Litvak. Apparently the duo, “attempted to balance a treatment that would convince the studio it was cinematic and keep the toy company satisfied that its characters were being portrayed appropriately.” Gee, that doesn’t sound like Mattel is all too particular about their property.

Warners Does Us All A Favor And Dumps ‘He-Man’; Mandy Moore To Let Her Hair Down As ‘Rapunzel’

– Mattel and Warner Bros. — apparently taking pity on the moviegoing audience — have reached a mutual decision to let the rights lapse to “Masters of the Universe,” which Joel Silver had been developing for the studio with “Kung-Fu Panda” director John Stevenson attached to direct. Variety claims that Warners and the toy company “didn’t see eye to eye over the direction of the project,” and that Mattel hope to set the He-Man property up elsewhere, with Stevenson still on board, so we’re not totally out of the woods yet, but at least it should be a few more years of development before this sure-to-be disaster hits the screen.

Though apparently being one of the worst scripts in recent history — so we’ve heard — work persists on bringing back “He-Man” to the big screen. Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures have hired yet another writer to do another pass at the script called, “Grayskull.” They’re seemingly so desperate they’ve hired Evan Daugherty, a scribe whose only writing credit so far is the unproduced screenplay “Shrapnel” which he wrote on a NYU film-school grant. Rippling biceps, mighty torsos, sweaty abs- a “Masters Of The Universe” movie is upon us! John Stevenson (“Kung Fu Panda”) is set to make his live action directorial debut on the Mattel toy spinoff, working with superproducer Joel Silver (“The Matrix”) and a script by Justin Marks. Marks is responsible for the upcoming “Street Fighter” movie, as well as proposed scripts for “Voltron,” “Hack/Slash” and “Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max.” So essentially, he’s the worst person ever.

That horrible X-Men, babies, sorry teenagers project, “X-Men: First Class” is going forward. Yes, there was the comic The New Mutants that specifically dealt with teenagers grappling with their new powers (most Marvel mutants gain powers around puberty), but this one is being written by “Gossip Girls” creator Josh Schwartz (who also did the pitiful, “The O.C.”) Does that mean Alexandra Patsavas (Schwartz’s go-to girl for music) with cheesy, pseudo hip, teen emo-indie rock like Paramore and Fall Out Boy (as she is wont to do with all her projects)?

The Power Of Grayskull Cannot Keep New ‘He-Man’ Movie Alive

The proposed idea to make the He-Man movie is dead. Latino Review is reporting that the plans for a remake of “He-Man,” are done and Warner Bros. are no longer interested.

Apparently name directors like Doug Liman and Bryan Singer passed on the project and WB weren’t exactly jazzed about the film either. LR loved the “Grayskull” script, but they’re wont to do that whenever a toy or comic-book character hits the page and says something even remotely ghey.
