Adapted from the novel by Taylor Adams, the Hulu movie tactfully splatters blood all over the classic premise of a few mysterious strangers holed up in a single location. And while its minimalism can make for a mixed bag of surprises, “Killing Ground” director Damien Power ensures that “No Exit” has enough of his own striking signature.

With “Madeline’s Madeline” and “Shirley,” she has cemented herself as an individualistic and inventive filmmaker who can put her spin on each new genre she tackles, and in her latest, “The Sky is Everywhere,” she imbues a YA story with her distinct touch for the avant-garde.

There’s some dark, snowy weather, a dose of claustrophobia, a secret kidnapping, and a classic whodunnit. Hopefully, it all comes together and works well later this month.

The film stars Grace Van Patten, a young woman pushed around in life who is mysteriously transported to another land where she meets a group of female rebels battling against male soldiers.

The celebrated “Promising Young Woman,” while dark satire, uses hot pink revenge fantasy to acerbically explore unresolved trauma (its we live in a society bias nicely unpacked here), and fellow Sundance film, “The Blazing World,” attempts to fall down the rabbit hole of make-believe and similar flight-or-flight responses to emotional scars, only to grotesquely exploit it with its awkward tumble.
