Turn it up to 11, the sequel to the sequel to the 1984 cult classic “This Is Spinal Tap,” recently began production in New Orleans, Louisiana. Rob Reiner is behind the director’s chair again, and Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer are all reprising their iconic roles as the legendary heavy metal band Spinal Tap. Reiner will also reprise his role as the director-within-the-movie Martin “Marty” DiBergi.

While it may seem like an idea two or three decades too late, the gang from “This Is Spinal Tap” are reuniting for an encore, turning it up to 11 one more time. That’s right, the entire original gang, director Rob Reiner, and writers and cast members David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) are returning for “This Is Spinal Tap II.”

Reiner, who made his directorial debut in 1984 with “This Is Spinal Tap,” will also return as filmmaker Marty DiBergi and reuse the mock-documentary format about a loud, obnoxious, and crass heavy metal band from England who always seems to be losing and replacing drummers.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made history today inviting a record 928 new members as it aims to expedite its long-term goal of a more diverse membership overall.

According to the AMPAS 49% of the new members are women, 38% are People of Color and they represent 59 different countries. These efforts are making an impact. In 2015 just 8% of the members were POC. That percentage has jumped to 16% in 2018.
