Warner Bros. Still Converting ‘Deathly Hallows’ To 3D For BluRay; ‘Order Of The Phoenix’ & ‘Half-Blood Prince’ To Go 3D Too

Harry Potter fans were momentarily thrilled and heartened when Warner Bros. announced last week that it was canceling plans to release “Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows” in 3D in November. However, it turns out the studio is still moving full steam ahead to cover not only ‘The Deathly Hallows,’ but back catalog titles “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

Warner Bros., who are still using conversion production outlet Prime Focus who are rebuilding their reputation after their awful rush job of “Clash Of The Titans,” are said to be methodically converting both parts of ‘Deathly Hallows.’ Director David Yates is still in post-production on ‘Deathly Hallows’ but will be overseeing the conversion of his Potter films to 3D.

Warner Bros. Cancels 3D Release Of ‘Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows,’ Will Hit Theaters In 2D Only

Wow, color us surprised. Warner Bros. has canceled plans to release the first entry in the two-part “Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows” in 3D. It will still hit theaters as planned on November 19th, but now people won’t need to wear the dorky glasses and pay extra money for the privilege.

In a statement, the studio said “we will not have a completed 3D version of the film within our release date window,” adding “despite everyone’s best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality.

The teaser poster for “Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows” tells you everything you need to know. It’s the final installment in the franchise. It’s in two parts. One part comes out this year, the other next year and oh yeah, it will be 3D. Marketing mission: accomplished.

No surprise here. Mel Gibson has been dropped by his agency WME in the wake of newly leaked tapes where he runs his mouth (again) and drops the n-word.

Watch: New Trailer For ‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’

After 13 years and seven installments, things are finally winding down for Harry Potter. The final novel in the fantasy series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” was released in 2007, and now the last of the film adaptations is in the can and set to be released in 2 parts later this year and next. Part 1 will hit theatres this November 19th, followed by Part 2 on July 15th, 2011.

‘Hallows’ follows wizard friends Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), as they find and destroy the source of immortality for Harry’s nemesis, Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), leading to his and Harry’s final confrontation, where one must die so that the other can live.

‘Harry Potter’ Director David Yates Offered To Helm ‘The Hobbit’

Mentioned in the latest issue of Production Weekly and slowly making its way around the web, an offer has reportedly been made to David Yates to step behind the camera for “The Hobbit.”

Director David Yates has now helmed half of the entries in the enormously successful ‘Harry Potter’ series, including the yet-to-be released two-part final chapter “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” which just wrapped filming yesterday.

As you’re well aware by now, “The Hobbit” lost its helmer Guillermo Del Toro two weeks ago.

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” may have been the teen phenomenon of the moment at the MTV Movie Awards last night, but those in attendance were also the lucky first viewers of the teaser for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” Although we’re skeptical of calling the first view of a teaser trailer a premiere, the unveiling does mark the beginning of the end of a massive movie franchise and arguably the largest pop culture fixture of the last decade.

The marketing campaign for the Duplass brothers’ upcoming comedy “Cyrus” has been kick started with an amusing t-shirt emblazoned with a phrase that pretty much sums up the film’s theme: “Seriously, Don’t F**k My Mom.” You can pick up the shirt over at Fox Searchlight’s online shop. As for the film, we caught it at SXSW, calling it a funny/sad, dark, endearing picture that can’t be missed. Check it out when it opens on June 18th.

Update: Oops! Warner Bros. says “The Hobbit” 2013 release date was a typo, and the project is still aiming to hit theaters in 2012. But of course, that all depends if MGM can find some money in the couch cushions to make this happen. Though note, the second part of “The Hobbit” — remember it is two parts — is set for December 2013. There was obviously some confusion this morning across the entire web.

Action Fantasy Film Shot In 2D To Be Re-Upped To 3D. Will Fans Spot The Difference/Care?

It’s official: movie studios think so little about audiences they’re willing to make you spend extra dollars on a semi-fraudulent product.

Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of The Titans” remake starring go-to-guy Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and a bunch of Greek mythology monsters, minotaurs, Medusas, Kraken’s etc, was not shot in 3D. Repeat: not shot in 3D.

But Warner Bros. has seen the books, looked at the numbers, assessed the extra costs and offically said, “fuck it, let’s do it.” As discussed WB was recently doing last minute tests to see if they could do the 3D transfer/awesome-ifying in time and have now decided to release the 2D shot film in 3D on April 2, one week after it’s originally scheduled release date (the last “Harry Potter” installments are officially being 3D-ized as well)

Will rubric audiences fall for this ruse?

‘Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows’ Coming To 3D; ‘Clash Of The Titans’ Decision Comes Soon

So you ask is the 3D fad here to stay? Uhh, $1.843 billion dollars in “Avatar” receipts says hell yes.

Last week we discussed the possibility that Warner Bros. might awesome-ify Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of The Titans” film starring action cut-out Sam Worthington, by doing a last minute rendering/tweaking into the 3D format to cash in on those “Avatar” bucks.

Well, apparently WB hasn’t made that decision yet, but the testing has evidently gone so well they already decided that the two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” will be released in 3D according to THR.

“Wolf Man’ Attempts To Toughen Up Character With Reshoots, ‘Tron 2’ Sequel Gets A Plot

Recent reshoots on Joe Johnston’s ‘The Wolf Man” were reportedly an attempt to make the title character tougher and fiercer on all fours in battle. All reshoots were handled Vic Armstong and apparently focused on “a great confrontation between the Wolf Man and the Werewolf” with leads actors only on set intermittently. We’re huge fans of Benicio but god, this sounds awful. [Daily Mail via /Film]

Nicole Kidman is attached to star and produce the BBC Films production of the Chris Cleave novel “Little Bee.” The film centers on a fateful encounter on an African beach in which a 16-year-old Nigerian orphan named Little Bee meets a vacationing upper-middle-class British couple who’ve wandered into an area outside the safety of their resort.

Original ‘Harry Potter’ Cast To Reunite For Coda In Final Installment Of ‘The Deathly Hallows’

Hot on the heels of the just-released trailer for this summer’s “Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince” (below, we didn’t race for it obviously) , MTV’s Movie Blog is reporting that David Yates, director of “Order of the Phoenix,” ‘Half-Blood Prince, and the two-part ‘Deathly Hollows,’ plans on using the original actors for the coda to ‘Deathly Hollows.’

“We will shoot it,” producer David Heyman tersley told MTV.

In the epilogue to the final book, it flashes forwards several years and we see – SPOILER – the surviving characters all grown up (awww – yeah, it wasn’t exactly my favorite part of the book either).
