With a new micro-budget horror film hitting theaters almost every week, at this point, the few good ones tend to get lost amongst the flood of awfulness. Unfortunately, that means that there are times when the truly unique and interesting horror films are passed over because people have been burned one too many times by the latest jump scare-laden mess. That seems to be the case with the most recent “Happy Death Day 2U.” And sadly, it appears that the franchise isn’t coming back and is dead for good.

Yesterday, we reported that an outraged parent of a teenage victim of last year’s Parkland school shooting was upset with Blumhouse Productions and Universal about the upcoming release date for “Happy Death Day 2U.” The actual release date of February 14 coincided with the first anniversary of the tragic event. Well, according to Universal, the studio is willing to move the date for the film…kind of.

It seems that Theresa “Tree” Gelbman just can’t catch a break. Theresa had to relive her birthday over and over and must go through more hell. But apparently, what she went through in the first “Happy Death Day” doesn’t compare to what she’ll go through in the sequel.

“Happy Death Day” became a surprise hit upon its release. It also received praise for its fun, simplistic premise. It’s essentially “Groundhog Day” meets “Scream” and it works quite well.
