If it weren’t for its setting and its message, “The Idol” might appear to be an entirely standard musical biopic. On its surface, this movie about the life of “Arab Idol” winner Muhammad Assaf will be familiar to anyone who has seen an episode of the show’s British or American predecessors, a biographical drama, or “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.” The Palestinian film begins with the singer’s childhood, offering glimpses of talent to come and a galvanizing tragedy, then it transitions into adult attempts at fame.

Mickey Rourke & Til Schweiger Join Action Thriller ‘The Courier’

We don’t even remember reporting on the Jeffrey Dean Morgan project “The Courier” (honestly, who keeps close tabs on JDM?), but hey, apparently it exists.

And now it’s on our radar because it looks like Mickey Rourke and Til Schweiger (“Inglourious Basterds”) have joined the cast.

The project will be helmed by Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad whose controversial 2005 film “Paradise Now” won a Golden Globe for best foreign language film.

Mickey Rourke, Vincent Cassel & Alice Braga Set To Star In ’11 Minutes’

Mickey Rourke is keeping the momentum on the self-titled comeback up by taking a role as a Geneva-based Gentleman’s club owner in Hany Abu-Assad’s adaptation of the Paulo Coehlo novel, “11 Minutes.” He is set to star along side French Thespian Vincent Cassel, who plays a music exec who falls into the grips of a serious S&M addiction that threatens to ruin his life and Alice Braga (“City of God” “I am Legend”) who is playing a scorned lover who becomes a high-priced call girl in Rourke’s club.
