We have officially entered the time of year when some of the best films from this year’s Sundance Film Festival begin their theatrical rollouts. And that includes the offbeat dramedy “Before You Know It.”

As seen in the new trailer, the festival standout from earlier this year features the fairly typical family dramedy tropes, but with a couple of additional quirks. Two sisters are trying to keep their lives together, while also dealing with a father that is quite possibly a man-child and the sudden re-emergence of their estranged mother, who happens to be a soap opera star.

Within the first minute of “Before You Know It,” protagonist Rachel’s date jokingly accuses her of being a manic pixie dream girl. It’s not unwarranted – Rachel (played by the film’s director and co-writer Hannah Pearl Utt) is a be-turtlenecked, mousy stage manager who lives in an apartment-slash-independent theater with her eccentric family. Despite being the younger sibling, Rachel has taken on the mantle of matriarch after her mother died young.
