We know there’s a way for generative A.I. to perhaps write scripts. And over the past several months or so, we’ve seen A.I. create compelling videos. That said, it’s still up for debate about how creators or studios will use it in the process of filmmaking. One thing is for sure: Guillermo del Toro is no fan.

However, when you have a filmmaker like del Toro and an expensive film you want to sell, you might take some liberties in the marketing of the movie. But according to the filmmaker, that’s what ultimately doomed the movie.

Speaking to Vulture, Guillermo del Toro talked, at length, about his 2015 film, “Crimson Peak.” And interestingly, with nearly a decade behind him, he’s able to pinpoint exactly the moment when he knew the film would struggle at the box office.

“The thing that will always, pun intended, haunt that movie is that it was sold as a horror movie,” said del Toro.

One of those is a sequel to “Alita: Battle Angel” that he’s been speaking with Disney and Robert Rodriguez about—logistics such as budget and platform, surely part of the conversation. At the same time, Cameron’s been working on another long-gestating project, a remake of the classic 1966 film “Fantastic Voyage,” which he had nearly directed himself.

From the first rumblings to a confirmed cast, we have covered just about every aspect of this film that is in development. Well, it appears there’s one more bit of a shakeup before the feature finally begins production, and that includes a change at the top of the cast.

According to Variety, Jacob Elordi has been added to the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein.” The actor is set to replace Andrew Garfield in the lead role as the monster in the film.

Gone are the days of wandering the aisles and searching for a cool movie to buy. The decline of physical film releases first began with the closing of video stores and the rise of streaming. But soon, it really does seem as if the idea of buying a Blu-ray will be looked at as if you’re buying some sort of novelty or collectible.

Obviously, that was during a time when “Star Wars” was in a state of flux, and Lucasfilm was desperately trying to figure out the way of the world under Disney’s ownership. Now, it appears the studio has a plan moving forward, but for better or worse, that doesn’t include del Toro’s Jabba film.

In a new interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, screenwriter David S. Goyer confirmed he wrote not just one but two unproduced scripts for Lucasfilm. And one of those projects was a movie about Jabba The Hutt for Guillermo del Toro. For fans who don’t remember, GDT hinted he wanted to make a “The Godfather“-like movie for the Tattooine crime lord five or so years ago.

Lovecraft‘s “In The Mountains Of Madness.” And it was an ambitious project for del Toro, with a $150 million budget and Industrial Light And Magic on board for VFX. But Universal shelved the project at the last minute, leaving Lovecraft fans to wonder what GDT had in mind for the writer’s first big film adaptation.

It’s a challenge Guillermo del Toro undertakes with the legendary character Pinocchio. Far from the fantasy set by Disney — or flawed direct-to-video entries from others — his imaginative take on Carlo Collodi’s 1883 tale promises reinspection of a classic. The Netflix film looks at themes commonly associated with children’s literature, namely obedience without question or reason. “This [movie] is about finding yourself, and finding your way in the world—not just obeying the commandments that are given to you, but figuring out when they are okay or not,” the filmmaker told Vanity Fair.

So, it’s no surprise that when crafting his new horror anthology, “Cabinet of Curiosities,” he aimed to include stories with scary monsters and horrific stories.

As seen in the new trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s “Cabinet of Curiosities,” we get a first look at the individual stories that comprise the new anthology.

But that’s what Guillermo del Toro did with last year’s luxurious noir “Nightmare Alley,” his follow-up to 2017’s “The Shape Of Water.” “Nightmare Alley” didn’t quite catch on despite a great case, but maybe del Toro’s next film will bring a real shot of life.
