Women ruled the music world over the past 12 months so it was no surprise that female acts dominated the top categories after the 2025 Grammy Awards nominations were revealed. Gayle King, Jim Gaffigan, and several Grammy winners including Brandy Clark, Kirk Franklin, David Frost, Robert Gordon, Kylie Minogue, Gaby Moreno, Deanie Parker, Ben Platt, Mark Ronson, Hayley Williams, and Victoria Monét announced the honorees. Beyoncé led all nominees with 11 and now has 99 nominations overall along with 32 previous wins.

She may have been unfairly snubbed for an Academy Award nomination for her performance in “The Woman King,” but Viola Davis has something bigger to celebrate this month. During a pre-broadcast ceremony this afternoon, Davis won a Grammy Award in the Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category for her own memoir, “Finding Me.” She now has won all four major entertainment awards landing her in the coveted EGOT club.

The Recording Academy announed the 2020 Grammy Nominations on Wednesday morning and history was made. Lizzo led all nominees with eight, but both she Billie Eilish landed nods in the top four categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist. They become the first two artists to ever pull that unique feat off.

The Recording Academy handed out the winners of the 2019 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night and a number of the early awards went to movie-centric nominees.

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper won Best Song Written For Visual Media for “Shallow” from “A Star is Born.” Ludwig Göransson work for “Black Panther” won Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and “The Greatest Showman” took best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media.

The Recording Academy announced the nominations for February’s 2019 Grammy Awards and while Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Ariana Grande fans were outraged their favorites didn’t earn “key” nominations there was genuine surprise at two of the players that did. Two players that also have major stakes at the 91st Academy Awards later that month.

“A Star is Born’s” “Shallow,” performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, earned nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Song Written for Visual Media.

In the face of criticism over the lack of minority and female nominees in its top categories, the Recording Academy has informed its members that it is taking action.  Beginning with next year’s Grammys, major awards such as Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist will expand from five to eight nominees.  And, frankly, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the caretakers of the Academy Awards, should pay close attention.

The 60th Grammy Awards were handed out in New York City on Sunday over separate pre-telecast and live broadcast ceremonies.  The biggest winner of the night was Bruno Mars who won Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, R&P Performance, R&B Song, R&B Album and Engineered Album.  Kendrick Lamar took Rap Performance, Rap/Sung Performance, Rap Song, Rap Album aand Music Video .  Ed Sheeran won Pop Performance, Pop Vocal Album and Pop Solo Performance, but did not attend the ceremony.

Oscar’s big nomination day is still over a month away, but music got its moment in the spotlight as The Recording Academy revealed the nominees for the 59th Grammy Awards this morning and, as expected, Queen Bee ruled the roost.

Beyonce took nine nominations including Record of the Year (“Formation”), Album of the Year (“Lemonade”) and Song of the Year (“Formation”). Drake, Rihanna and Chance the Rapper all earned seven while Adele took five (Xavier Dolan‘s video for “Hello” was snubbed).
