Simultaneously, Maele manages to unravel a dark noir while meshing in hints of German expressionism and nods to <strong>Lars Von Trier</strong>-esque surrealism.</p>
<p>For almost the entirety of “Gutland,” it is quite difficult to gauge the plot trajectory of Maele’s debut.</p>
