It took 5 seasons and 100 episodes, but Fox’s “Gotham” TV series is set to finally unveil this universe’s version of Batman, as well as fully realize his various villains with their more comics-accurate looks. But at this point, do you care?

UPDATE: It was brought to my attention (many, many times) that I failed to mention Jared Leto’s version of Joker that was seen in “Suicide Squad.” And while I must admit, Leto is godawful as the character in that film (almost the worst part of an already-terrible film), the actor at least had quality makeup and was trying something “new.” So, I stand by the below statements about “Gotham” having the worst-designed Joker ever created.

One of the more perplexing DC comics-related Hollywood projects on the docket is the upcoming “Pennyworth” series coming to EPIX in June. The series aims to tell the story of a young Alfred Pennyworth, the future butler of Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. However, the series isn’t based on strict DC comics lore. Instead, it’s a prequel to the character that we meet in the Fox series “Gotham,” which means this version of Alfred is a badass.

For that matter, you won’t find much love for the Marvel live-action TV series either (despite “Daredevil” Season 3 being pretty good). We know this sounds like a joke, especially since less than a month ago Warner Bros. already made fun of the concept in their “Teen Titans GO! to the Movies” trailer, but we’re about to get a “Batman” spin-off focusing on his butler Alfred Pennyworth.

Seriously.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Epix just put in a straight-to-series order for 10 episodes of “Pennyworth,” the latest “Batman” property to come to TV.

The American Society of Cinematographers announced the 2018 nominees for the ASC Awards. Like many guild honors it’s seen as a precursor for the equivalent category at the Academy Awards and this year that’s good news for Netflix and “Mudbound.”

“Mudbound’s” Rachel Morrison became the first woman ever nominated for this honor by the ASC and if she earns an Oscar nomination she’d also make history with the Academy in that respect (both stats are embarrassing, frankly).
