‘Hostel 3’ On The Way To Torture Viewers; ‘Megamind’ Puts Megastars On New Poster; ‘Visioneers’ Soundtrack Finally Released & More

The one-sheet for the forthcoming DreamWorks animated film “Megamind” puts its two biggest selling points front and center: Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell. Though we’d rather see the two square off in a live-action movie, this one seems like it could be some fun. The film opens on November 5th.

Oh, so apparently there are enough people out there to warrant “Hostel 3.” The film will shoot in August and the story (such as it is) will take us to Las Vegas “where a bachelor party goes horribly wrong.” So basically it’s “The Hangover” with way more torture.

Melanie Laurent & Goran Visnjic Join Mike Mills’ ‘Beginners’

-Goran Visnjic (TV’s “ER”) and Melanie Laurent (Shosanna from “Inglourious Basterds”) have signed on to Mike Mills’ “Beginners,” joining a cast that includes Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor. Variety says the “logline is under wraps,” but we revealed what it was about months ago: the film concerns a son (MacGregor) dealing with the double revelation that his father (Plummer) is dying from terminal cancer and has come out of the closet.

The last time we reported about the film, the role of the father’s younger lover hadn’t yet been cast, so we’re assuming this is role Visnjic is taking.

‘A Prophet’ Leads European Film Awards; New ‘Wonderland’ & ‘Parnassus’ Posters; Åkerlund Directs Rammstein

-The European Film Award nominations have been released and Jacques Audiard’s “A Prophet” along with Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire,” lead the way with six nods each. There are few surprises among the nominees, with the most of the pictures having received critical plaudits over the past year. “The White Ribbon” and “Broken Embraces” each earned four notices, while “Let The Right One In,” “The Reader,” “Fish Tank” and “Coco Avant Chanel” crowd each other with three nominations each.

Scarlett Johansson’s ‘New York, I Love You’ Vignette Finds A Home At L.A. Shorts Fest

Remember how Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut, the short vignette within “New York, I Love You,” was unceremoniously dumped by the producers of the project, either because it was too long or not very good? (Depending on what rumor of the day you believe, though producers eventually vigorously defended its merits and just said it didn’t fit within the larger framework).

Well it’s called “The Vagabond Shows,” and has now found itself a home outside that omnibus project at the L.A.
