LAS VEGAS – First, for those who care, CinemaCon has witnessed the first sneak of Antoine Fuqua‘s Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” and if you’re a hardcore fan, you will be quite happy with the results so far. Jaafar Jackson is at his best on stage playing his uncle and, truth be told, his dance moves are uncanny. Nia Long has a moment as Michael’s mother Katherine Jackson and there is a brief glimpse of Colman Domingo as the notorious family patriarch Joe Jackson.

It looks like it’s bad luck for Aziz Ansari‘s “Good Fortune.” THR reports that the current WGA writers’ strike has forced Lionsgate and Ansari to indefinitely suspend filming on the project. Lionsgate made the decision last night after picketers interrupted filming in LA’s Koreatown two days in a row earlier this week, on May 16 and 17. There’s hope work on “Good Fortune” will start again, but if the WGA strike lasts through the summer, this may be another lost project for Ansari.

Aziz Ansari is a rare filmmaker who is getting a second chance to do his feature film debut. After the drama surrounding his first-first film, “Being Mortal,” led to that movie getting scrapped midway through production, the actor-filmmaker has turned his sights to another project, “Good Fortune,” which he hopes will finally make him a feature director. 

Today, Lionsgate announced the upcoming film, “Good Fortune,” which is set to be written and directed by Aziz Ansari, becoming his new official feature film directorial debut.
