Early last year, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, the creative tag-team behind the Netflix show “GLOW,” signed an overall deal with Apple for new TV projects. Their first show for AppleTV+? An anthology series of darkly comic feminist fables that stars some of the most talented women in show business.

A year ago, everything seemed alright in the world of “GLOW.” The third season was released and received strong reviews, giving Netflix the confidence to greenlight a fourth and final season. Unfortunately, no one predicted COVID would disrupt the entire world and the film industry, specifically. And so, Netflix rescinded its fourth season offer and outright canceled the series, shocking and disappointing millions of fans. But according to Alison Brie, the star of the series, she really would love one more shot to end the show, but she’s happy for what was made.

The Screen Actors Guild announced the nominess for the 26th SAG Awards and the big winners across both film and television were “The Irishman,” “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, “Jojo Rabbit,” “The Morning Show, “Bombshell” and, “Jojo Rabbit.”  Oh, and “Parasite” which became just the second film not completely in the English language to earn a SAG Ensemble nomination.  It was quite a morning.

With attention to craft, characters, and streamlined storytelling, “GLOW” has really perfected many of its maneuvers, resulting in a winning series.

The members of the Screen Actors Guild are a quirky bunch.  The entire SAG-AFTRA organization has a pool of 129,000 or so members that is widdled down to 2,500 or so volunteers who vote for the annual SAG Awards as the “nominating committee.”  Sometimes they come to screenings, sometimes they don’t.  Sometimes they watch screeners, sometimes they don’t.  What we do know is they love Netflix.  Really.  In fact, it should be a constant theme when considering who will and who won’t be nominated for SAG honors this year.

Netflix just announced the release date for season 2 of “GLOW” and they couldn’t have done it in a more ‘80s way.

In the video that announces the return of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, the women are dressed as their wrestling characters while they sing and dance along to the classic ‘80s song “Maniac,” which was featured in the film “Flashdance.” All the actresses are back, and right as their about to end the video with an ensemble dance, Marc Maron, who plays sleazy producer Sam Sylvia, breaks up the video.
