Night Shyamalan unveiled his gritty, realistic take on the superhero genre with “Unbreakable.” The film wasn’t a monster success at the box office, but did very well at the time, igniting fan interest in a sequel. However, a sequel didn’t come until 2017 with “Split.” And this earlier this year, Shyamalan brought the whole series to a close with the massive blockbuster “Glass.”

And in honor of “Glass” arriving on Blu-ray today, we are proud to offer a chance for our readers to win a prize pack that not only includes copies of “Unbreakable” and “Split,” but also a signed copy of “Glass,” as well as a movie-branded wireless mouse.

With common sense dictating that the films being named by the Academy as the best of the year will get a bump at the box office, analysts are always curious about which films will spark renewed interest from film fans and which can’t even benefit from a bit more notoriety. This weekend also had the added bonus of a highly divisive adult thriller, a critically-acclaimed kids film from an up and coming director, and a flurry of holiday leftovers still staking a claim.

Night Shyamalan doesn’t leave much room for nuance. He never has. You can see that much in the critical and audience responses to his now two decades of filmmaking, beginning with “The Sixth Sense” in 1999. You can also see it in the films themselves, whose quality so often hinge entirely on whether you buy a startling third-act answer to a question you may never have asked.

But in the modern film industry, where tentpoles are launched every month, January 18 is the perfect time to release the trilogy-ending superhero film from a popular director that ends a story that began almost 20 years ago. So, as a surprise to exactly no one, “Glass” debuted this weekend and easily won the domestic box office.

A belated 19-years-later post-hoc sequel to 2000’s “Unbreakable” and continuation of the story unveiled in 2016’s secretly connected “Split”—which only revealed its existence in the same “Unbreakable” cinematic universe in a surprise concluding end tag—“Glass” is ambitious in its grand intentions and mythology making.

Time of the year doesn’t as frequently dictate quality, as it used to, seeing plenty of films with February and March release, dates that both critically and commercially flourish, but January still can’t shake the dumping ground mentality for films that studios didn’t quite know what to do with.

Will the ‘Avengers 4’ trailer arrive on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday? Oops, it’s changed, sorry, it’s not arriving til Monday. First the trailer usurped the movie itself, and now the date of the trailer has usurped the trailer itself, which is of course just a commercial trying to convince you to see a movie which in some case is a piece of art and other times is a commercial for a larger film, bigger universe or next installment of what the studio really wants you to see.

Jackson is the highest grossing actor of all time; having appeared in a number of hugely successful franchises, from the “Star Wars” prequels and “The Incredibles” to “Jurassic Park” and most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. All told, it’s pretty easy to see how the films Jackson appeared in have grossed more than five and a half billion dollars.

Before the event even began, many were wondering what to make of the annual nerd extravaganza. Would there be any effect from Marvel Studios ditching Hall H? Would WB/DC bring out the big guns to capture the spotlight? And would there be any surprise announcements or projects that weren’t leaked ahead of time?

Well, now that SDCC has come and gone, we have some answers to these questions, and a whole lot more.

Night Shyamalan would be connected? Yeah, us either. Welcome to “Glass,” the long-awaited sequel to Shyamalan’s “Split” and 2000’s sleeper hit “Unbreakable.”

While David Dunn from “Unbreakable” may not be the next Captain America, Shyamalan seems to be following up on creating his own indie-horror cinematic universe with his version of a superhero.

The annual San Diego-hosted hotspot for all things comic book-related was once the official house of all things proudly nerdy and gleefully geeky, but it hasn’t hosted the same reputation it once held. The lines are long. The heat can be unbearable. The walking is endless. The bathrooms are fleeting (and disgusting). And it’s sometimes hard to justify all the time and labor spent on the weeklong trip — especially when there’s a better-than-decent chance the footage or panels you are watching will soon be available (or, more likely, leaked) for anyone and everyone to watch online.

And thanks to EW, we have the first look at Samuel L.

Jackson finds himself starring in some of the most highly-anticipated films over the next year. Just this weekend, he lent his voice to the massive kid’s film “Incredibles 2,” returning as the hero known as Frozone. However, that’s not all the superhero work he’s got coming up. He returns to the iconic role of Nick Fury in next year’s “Captain Marvel.” But perhaps most exciting is his return to the “Unbreakable” universe in the upcoming film “Glass.”

But according to Jackson, he didn’t realize “Glass” was even on the horizon.

Night Shyamalan’s “Split” proved going back to low budget basics can regalvanize a career. “Split” was an unqualified success at the box office with a haul grossing $277 million worldwide off a $9 million dollar budget. If you saw “Split,” you know that the twist ending reveals that the film is a “soft sequel” to Shyamalan’s 2000 film “Unbreakable.” Shyamalan will be exploring more of this territory with his newest film “Glass,” set to be released in 2019.

M. Night Shyamalan‘s comeback has been official since “Split” topped the box-office for three weekends in a row back in late January/early February of this year. By then it had made $100 million in those three weekends alone. Its overall domestic gross is currently close to $138 million, an all out smash for Blumhouse and Universal, which had the film budgeted at a skimp $9 million.

Night Shyamalan has had more twists and turns than an M. Night Shyamalan movie. He went from director of a virtually unseen indie debut, to an Oscar-nominated overnight success with “The Sixth Sense,” to a golden boy unable to do wrong with “Unbreakable” and “Signs,” to a critical piñata with “Lady In The Water” and “The Happening,” to blockbuster-flop helmer (and also still a critical piñata) with “After Earth” and “The Last Airbender,” to the director of well-executed, low-budget, career-reviving horror movies.
