Originally shown to be a bit of an idiot and brat that wasn’t worthy of the throne, Thor has evolved into a silly, witty comedic force in the MCU. Hell, he’s even packed on a few pounds in the process, literally bringing a new layer to the character. And this evolution has a lot to do with actor Chris Hemsworth, who turned being bored and disinterested in his superhero character to helping change Thor into the loveable goof he is now.

The boys at Film Drunk are laughing over a “scoop” sent to them from an anonymous reader who claims to have swiped the “G.I. Joe” sequel script, codenamed (?) “Twin Parallax” (??), in order to make sure that Hollywood stops making inferior product. Quite the champion for good taste, this man is. From his e-mail:

“I’d like the next Joe movie to be MUCH better than the last, and maybe if this story gets out now, it will force them to change some of the weaker elements for the better.

Stop the presses. An actual good, interesting movie debuted at #1 this summer. “District 9” seemed to come out of nowhere about two months ago, sans an attention-getting ad campaign or a major in-advance teaser trailer. Let this be a model for marketing people in Hollywood- a late-inning full court press isn’t the worst strategy. Audiences were probably intrigued by the cryptic ads selling the aliens, but there’s something to be said about the continued drawing power of Peter Jackson, who no doubt many people probably think directed this.

We missed this one at The Playlist, but Paramount was somehow able to get a major wide release for their esoteric-to-us toy-based adventure film and score $56.2 million at the box office, hitting number one in Sarah Palin’s Real America. Paramount was reticent to screen their esoteric-to-elites “The Adventures Of GI Jones And The Rise Of The Cobras” for critics and left the promotional push for flyover territories instead of major cities, and the results were pretty solid.

Like the rest of the world, we’re still waiting to be impressed by Channing Tatum. We first saw him in “Step Up” and wondered when this jive-talking b-boy comic relief was going to get hit by a bus, necessitating the arrival of the real male lead. And then it never happened! Suddenly, the mumbly, muscled young thesp was everywhere, sometimes believably (“A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints” where he played a monosyllabic bruiser) mostly not (everything else).

Paramount recently held a test screening for “GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra” and the fanboys were not impressed. So they did what any obsessive 80s cartoon fan would, they posted a scathing review of the one minute trailer on nukethefridge.com:

“I just came from a ‘test screening’ of the first teaser trailer for “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.” What can I say about it? Well, it was horrible. No, actually it was worse than horrible.”
