“Thelma & Louise” is a classic. There are no two ways about it. But something being a classic, nowadays, means that studios are excited about the prospect of a remake. But according to one of the stars of the film, remaking “Thelma & Louise” would be a complete mistake.

Speaking to IndieWire, while at the Bentonville Film Festival, Geena Davis was asked quite a bit about the classic drama, “Thelma & Louise.” She spoke at length about Ridley Scott and how he approached directing the film.

Geena Davis‘s memoir, “Dying Of Politeness,” dropped earlier this month, and in it, the actress has plenty of stories from her rise to fame and subsequent career. But one of the best stories is one she told The New Yorker in a recent profile, about the career advice her “Tootsie” co-star Dustin Hoffman told her to ward off the sexual advances of other actors.

The story goes that Bill Murray and screenwriter Howard Franklin developed their adaptation of Jay Cronley’s novel “Quick Change” – released in theaters thirty years ago this week – with Jonathan Demme in mind to direct, but the filmmaker turned it down to make “The Silence of the Lambs.” (That abrupt transition mostly serves as a reminder of what a shift “Silence” was for Demme; “Quick Change” is much more in the mold of his earlier ‘80s films like “Married to the Mob” and “Something Wild.”) They asked Ron Howard, who turned it down because “he didn’t know who to root for.” (“He lost me at that moment,” Murray said.

Remember the action thriller ‘Eve,” now “Ava”? The film was embroiled in controversy out of the gate before production even started. Filmmaker Matthew Newton dropped out of helming the picture when past domestic violence incidents resurfaced. Determined to get the film made, lead actor and producer on the film, Jessica Chastain—her Freckle Films production company was behind the project—recruited Tate Taylor, director of Chastain’s hit film “The Help” to take over the movie in the summer of 2018.

What began as a hodgepodge group of wannabe actresses turned campy wrestlers in the 1980s with its spirited, but uneven and sluggish, first season, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch’s Netflix series “GLOW” has markedly improved over the years to become a real contender. With attention to craft, characters, and streamlined storytelling, “GLOW” has really perfected many of its maneuvers, resulting in a winning series.

A few years on from the end of “Mad Men,” and Jon Hamm hasn’t quite hit movie star stratosphere in the way that some predicted for him.
