Newsflash- when there are no interesting wide releases out, no one will go to the movies. In one of the slowest sessions in recent memory, “The Final Destination” keeps the ignominious position of #1 movie in America, fending off the horrifically-reviewed stalker-comedy “All About Steve.” The 3D horror picture has taken only two weekends to cross $50 million, and by next weekend it can successfully be crowned the most successful of the series. Does this mean a fifth installment is in the cards?

J.J. Abrams And Tom Cruise Find Their ‘MI:4’ Writers, ‘Robin Hood’ To Get Modernized, Poster For ‘Gamer’

JJ Abrams and Tom Cruise have hired former “Alias” producers Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to write the screenplay for “MI:4,” the fourth installment of the “Mission Impossible” franchise. Cruise’s Ethan Hunt will reportedly be featured, though possibly in only an off-screen role for the film which aims for a 2011 release. [BFDealMemo]

Geeez, “Robin Hood” is set to get a modern makeover courtesy of Atlas Entertainment and the Hollywood Gang, people behind “The Dark Knight” and “300.” Nicolai Fuglsig has signed to direct with Jason Hall to scribe.

What If ‘The Running Man’ Was An MMORPG? ‘Gamer’ Trailer Has The Answer

The failure of “Crank: High Voltage” and being booted off “Jonah Hex” aren’t getting to writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor just yet, as they’ve just now given us a sneak-peek of their new film “Gamer.” Well, technically that’s not true- “Gamer” began principal photography even before the second “Crank” installment, and since then has been delayed by multiple release dates and reshoots. Americans now get our first look at the action thriller which was originally titled “Game” and rumored to be known as “Citizen Game.”

Gerard Butler stars in “Gamer” as Kable, a death row prisoner participating in a massive online game where users control prisoners as avatars through mind control and send them into battle against each other.

Despite our attempts to stay away from every little promotional poster for “Inglourious Basterds” so far, we have failed. Here’s a poster for Melanie Laurent’s French character Shosanna, who is essentially the main protagonist of the film. Obviously, Women cannot technically be labeled bastards or even basterds, but obviously in Quentin Tarantino’s world logic need not apply. [Cinematical]
