Your cinematic prayers have been answered: Stephen Sommers will return to direct “G.I. Joe 2.”

We’re not sure how this even got greenlit considering the first installment, though profitable, was barely the blockbuster Paramount was hoping for, but perhaps enough people bought moulded plastic figurines to make this worthwhile. Depending on who you asked, Sommers and Paramount either had a fight or didn’t in the lead up to the film’s release last year, but whatever it was, it appears everybody is best friends again.

2009 MTV Movie Awards Bring Exclusive Footage Of ‘Public Enemies,’ ‘Transformers’ & ‘New Moon’ Trailer

The 2009 MTV Movie Awards rolled through town last night and has, subsequently, brought us a host of trailers and exclusive footage for upcoming films.

While the show itself was funny, Andy Samberg and his skits were great (good host choice) and the Eminem-Brüno teabag incident was hilarious – the awards themselves were… well, let’s just summarize by saying “Twilight” and “High School Musical 3” swept all major awards and Miley Cyrus beat out A.R.

FilmSchoolRejects points us to the international trailer for “G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra,” which begs two questions. Does “Wolverine” have competition as being one of the worst blockbuster tentpoles of the year and can a film possibly have worse special effects that then Gavin Hood-directed mutant film? All incredibly good questions and the trailer for ‘G.I. Joe,’ does raise this as viable possibility.
