But critics who got wind of it first knew immediately that the show sizzled with intensity and bruising emotional family baggage. By the end of the summer, when audiences finally had a chance to catch up and binge it all, the series became a bonafide word-of-mouth hit.

Star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada also returns, as do co-creators, writers, and executive producers Justin Marks and Rachel Condo, as well as EP Michaela Clavell.  And “Shōgun” author James Clavell also returns to develop both upcoming seasons, too; so creatively speaking, everyone is back, which is good news for the show’s fans.

A third season was confirmed last year, but most would have expected a fourth go-around to film in 2025. That’s not the case as, quietly, “The Bear” is shooting both seasons three and four consecutively.
