“Friends from College” is a bit of a headscratcher for Netflix. The series has an incredible cast and a premise that should be pretty easy to mine for gold. However, the first season was far from a slam dunk, and while it showed promise, there wasn’t a whole lot on display that encouraged people to give a Season 2 a try. But here we are, about a year later, and it looks like, against all odds, “Friends from College” might have a pretty good new season.

Created by Nicholas Stoller, best known for his directorial efforts on “Neighbors 1 & 2” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and Francesca Delbanco, the series revolves around an ensemble cast of middle-aged college buddies, as they go through the next phase of their lives.

While we may be living in the era of Peak TV, people still enjoy their disposable programming, as the top five slots are occupied by “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life,” “Fuller House,” “The Ranch,” “Marvel’s The Defenders,” and something we never heard of called, “The Seven Deadly Sins” (it’s an anime series).

In the Age of Peak TV, June to August has simply become yet another space of prime real estate for cable and streaming services to drop new television series on unsuspecting audiences who are trying to catch up on “This Is Us.”
