You may or may not watch sports on television, but the announcement this afternoon of a new streaming partnership may be a major incentive for your household to cut that cable bill. In a seismic moment in streaming history, the Walt Disney Company (ESPN, ABC), FOX, and Warner Bros. Discovery (TNT, TBS) revealed that a new one-stop streaming destination with all their sports content will launch this fall. The partnership is currently unnamed but will be independently run under its own leadership team.

January is going to be slightly busier than normal. With the SAG and WGA strikes currently still ongoing, it was only a matter of time before the Television Academy and this year’s Emmy broadcast partner, FOX, moved the ceremony out of its originally scheduled Sept. 19th berth. It’s only slightly surprising the telecast will now occur four months later on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 15.

That date pushes the Emmys off its usual Sunday slot but makes sense with NFL playoff games in effect that weekend.

Wanna feel old? The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are coming this September. Yes, the television industry’s premier honor is three-quarters of the way to the century mark. And to celebrate, the Television Academy revealed key art for the 2023 ceremony that includes a “75” in the Emmy logo to commemorate the occasion. Oh, and FOX, which is broadcasting this year’s ceremony announced the telecast will take place on Monday, September 18.

Josh Trank is back. Well, not yet, but his next film, “Capone,” is set to be released next week and that means the director will have a new project to talk about, hopefully leading to discussions that don’t revolve around his last feature, “Fantastic Four.” That superhero film, released in 2015, not only was a critical and financial disaster for Fox but also led to some incredibly public combative comments from Trank towards the studio system and the cut of the film that was released.
