Nat Faxon and Jim Rash’s “Downhill” begins — as its inspiration, Ruben Östlund’s “Force Majeure,” did before it— with the taking of a family vacation photo. It’s an appropriate metaphor for the story that follows because any photo—especially the family vacation photo—is a case of presentation; this is the image we’re going to pretend is representative when, in fact, it took all sorts of pushing and prodding and passive-aggression to create that split second where everyone seems to be having a great time.

Look, making a Best of Decade list is an impossibility. As the 2010s come to a close, we’ve been agonizing over this (long-delayed) list for half a year now and even had to take a break and put it away this summer when things got too contentious and overwhelming. And then there’s the notion of resonance and what really lasts and is released too late (Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” is phenomenal, for example, but it’s not even released yet, and it’s just going to have to sit this one out).

Before you say it, we know — Hollywood is yet again making another (perhaps) pointless English-language remake of a great foreign film. That being said, there’s something interesting about the cast and crew that’s being put together for the upcoming remake of 2014’s “Force Majeure,” titled “Downhill.”

According to Deadline, Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are attached to star in the upcoming Fox Searchlight film “Downhill,” the English-language remake of the incredible Swedish dramedy, “Force Majeure.” For those that haven’t seen the 2014 film, “Force Majeure” (and ostensibly “Downhill”) tells the story of a family that is thrown into chaos while on a ski trip when an avalanche narrowly misses them.
