This week’s #FlashbackFriday is a bit different than previous ones. We’re not going to highlight an old interview with a filmmaker. There’s no lost gem of a video that we came across. No, this week we are going to take a look at a video, courtesy of YouTuber EckhartsLadder, that dissects the fan reaction to the triumphant return of “Star Wars” back in 1999 with ‘The Phantom Menace.’

And while you may think that fans were level-headed and understood that what they were watching back then was a pale comparison to the Original Trilogy, you will be surprised to know that “Star Wars” fans over-reacted, said that critics were wrong, and defended George Lucas until their dying breath.

For this week’s #FlashbackFriday, we would like to take a listen at an interview that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino gave around the release of “Inglourious Basterds.” Looking back, it feels as if that film became a turning point in the career of the acclaimed filmmaker, as he began to leave the comfort of his homage-filled niche roots of “Pulp Fiction,” “Jackie Brown,” and “Kill Bill,” to focus on films that could attract large audiences, such as a World War II epic.

Look, we’re not normally fans of just posting links to full films. However, in light of this week’s passing of Stan Lee and the fact that Marvel never released the finished version, we have a special treat for superhero fans for this week’s #FlashbackFriday.

The behind-the-scenes stories surrounding the original “Star Wars” trilogy are fairly well-known. Throughout the decades, books, videos, interviews, and so much more have been released detailing every nook and cranny of the creation of the three legendary sci-fi/fantasy films.

2018 has been a massive year for Marvel Studios, particularly this summer. As we approach the end of summer, and the impending Labor Day Weekend in the States, it’s clear that the biggest money-making season for the film industry was dominated by Marvel films, led by the $2 billion-grossing “Avengers: Infinity War.” That’s not even taking into account February’s massive “Black Panther.” But 2018 is also a time to celebrate for Marvel Studios because it marks the 10th anniversary of “Iron Man,” which jump-started Robert Downey, Jr’s career and kicking off one of the biggest film franchises in history.

This week in film news can be summed up by the following name — James Bond. The charismatic superspy has been the subject of a bit of a roller coaster ride this week, with the news that ‘Bond 25’ director Danny Boyle suddenly departed from the production, sending the film into a bit of disarray.

For our latest #FlashbackFriday, we wanted to take a trip back to the early-‘90s. It was a much simpler time, for sure. But it was also a time when a fresh-faced, but eager, Quentin Tarantino went to the Sundance Institute to workshop a script he was working on, titled “Reservoir Dogs.”

READ MORE: Steve Martin Discusses Being Pitched ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ By Stanley Kubrick

As they do at the Institute, Tarantino was teamed up with some more accomplished filmmakers, who would, of course, read his work, listen to his pitch, and give him notes.

Earlier this week, we were able to share a never-before-seen interview with Stanley Kubrick, where he broke down the ending of the masterpiece “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Well, now another piece of Kubrick history has shown up on our radar, and we decided to make it this week’s #FlashbackFriday.

For this week’s #FlashbackFriday, we are going back almost 20 years to revisit a Mel Gibson interview with Charlie Rose. Back then was a different time for Gibson. He was arguably at the height of his career, coming off the Oscar wins for “Braveheart” and landing major role after major role.

If you’re a fan of comic book films, you’re probably aware that filmmaker Darren Aronofsky has been linked to a few different superhero films throughout the years. At one time or another, the director has been attached to a ‘Wolverine’ film, which he eventually pulled out of, and even “Man of Steel.” However, with the current state of the DCEU and particularly the unknown status of who’s going to play the character, fans are left to wonder what the filmmaker would have brought to the table with his version of Batman.

Violence in media is a hot-button issue that has been discussed ad nauseam for decades. For years, parents were concerned about the violence in movies, with ratings becoming more and more strict over time. Luckily, for filmmakers, it appears that video games seem to bear the brunt of the excessive violence debate.
