Creator Nic Pizzolatto couldn’t come to terms with HBO on the direction for a fourth season after season three and then parted ways with the cable channel. In his stead, filmmaker Barry Jenkins came on board as an executive producer, co-signing on an idea from acclaimed Mexican horror filmmaker Issa López.

It is an era where a totalitarian regime rules the galaxy with an iron fist wiping out all dissidents and agitators, after all. While its fantasy elements and family legacy perhaps overshadowed the franchise for years, the prequels were concurrently just as much about the tragic erosion of democracy as they were about the fall of the chosen one.

I mean, it’s really about Rebels fighting against an evil Empire, huh? Remember those overt political in the prequels? Sure, there are laser sword fights and space battles for those who just want that, but “Star Wars” has a long track record of trying to be a socially-conscious, political franchise.

But since the Prequel trilogy from the early 2000s, that pioneering use of effects has been mainly in digital production. More recently, that means the use of “Volume,” an ultra-HD video wall that allows in-camera effects and creates immersive digital environments for actors to work in. Want to know why “The Mandalorian,” “The Book Of Boba Fett,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi” all look the same?

Well, it’s basically going out on top and ending early. Season four is its final one, and the game between Eve and Villanelle is coming to an end. To back up a bit, in case you’ve missed it, “Killing Eve” is the hit BBC American/AMC British spy thriller starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, who has since become a big start because of the show (and you can argue part of the reason the series is coming to an end is Comer is getting movie offer after movie offer and probably doesn’t want to turn any of that stuff down).

In fact, it was the harmonious union of these severe qualities that furnished his 2017 feature debut, “God’s Own Country,” with a daring edge and lyrical spirit. These aforesaid attributes turn up again (and with abundance) in “Ammonite,” Lee’s fictional tale built around the real-life, self-taught 19th century paleontologist Mary Anning.
