As you can hear in the title track, “Finch,” the score for the film is just as epic and beautiful as you’d expect from a feature helmed by Miguel Sapochnik and starring Tom Hanks about a man venturing out into the post-apocalypse with his trusty dog and his newly created robot companion.

“Finch” arrives on Apple TV+ under the banner of Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment – indeed, one of the first things we see is the “E.T. moon” logo – and one of its credited executive producers is frequent Amblin partner Robert Zemeckis. These credits are a tip at the throwback vibe they’re going for; the director is “Game of Thrones” alum Miguel Sapochnik, but he’s going for something of the twinkly magic of Spielberg and Zemeckis’s ‘80s and ‘90s output.

While we see streaming services snatch up exclusive rights to talent all over the world, it appears that Apple TV+ is wanting to stay in the Tom Hanks business as much as humanly possible. After debuting his war film, “Greyhound,” on the streaming platform last year and signing on to produce and finance his WWII series, “Masters of the Air,” Apple isn’t done working with the Oscar-winning actor, nabbing the distribution rights to his upcoming awards contender, “Finch.”
