Oof, this weekend is pretty painful at the Box-Office. “Max Payne” is expected to win, but it won’t win you any brain-cells. In fact you might lose some by attending. “[‘Payne] a nap-inducing special-effects fest, minus even the excitement of watching someone else play a game. Yawn. This is as cardboard as action-movie-making gets: slo-mo bullets and breaking glass, big explosions, rows and rows of dead bodies,” writes Marshall Fine at Hollywood and Fine.

Madonna’s “Filth & Wisdom” starring Eugene Hutz from the gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello is hitting North America on October 17. Press screenings have been making the rounds and we suppose we’ll go see it, but the film was slammed pretty hard at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.

The synopsis:

Madonna’s directorial debut, FILTH AND WISDOM, is a hilariously sexy tale of three roommates who must delve into mischievous and naughty behavior in pursuit of bigger and brighter futures.

Madonna Talks Malawi Aids Documentary Which Plays During Tribeca Film Festival; Which Conveniently Starts Tomorrow

The Tribeca Film festival opens tomorrow. We listed our Tribeca highlights a few weeks ago and Spoutblog did a nice job of listing theirs today which reminds us of the Madonna-produced documentary about orphans with AIDS in Malawi, “I Am Because We Are.”

Which also reminds us New York Magazine spoke to Madge about her “filmmaking” career which includes her much-despised directorial debut “Filth & Wisdom.” The highlights (or parts we care about) below.

So Madonna just unveiled her directorial debut “Filth & Wisdom,” at the recent Berlin Film Festival and the film was severely roasted by critics, right?

Does a recent quote over at Variety suggest that Madonna now realizes her chances for actual theatrical distribution are slim to none and instead wants to release the film via Itunes? (good spot Cinematical)

“I’ve been speaking to iTunes about releasing it through them,” Madge told Variety.

Jonny Greenwood Wins Consolation Oscar – Berlin Film Fest’s Music Outstanding Artistic Prize

He may have been deemed ineligible for an Oscar nomination and he may have been snubbed by his own (Brit-run) BAFTA awards. But Jonny Greenwood has finally won something for his eerie and majestic score for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “There Will Be Blood.”

Awards for the Berlin Film Festival were handed out this weekend and ‘Blood’ won two awards, Best Director for PTA and the award for a “Outstanding Artistic Contribution” went to the Radiohead guitarist.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Madonna’s directorial debut “Filth & Wisdom” starring her gypsy-punk bff, Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz that recently premiered at the recent Berlin Film Festival (a fest that is apparently bereft of any major hits and plenty of duds, speaking of…)

Reuters recently asked, “Madonna can sing, her acting has been hit and miss, and now the question is, can she direct?” They also noticed that her production notes revealed no lack of confidence.

Madonna’s Directorial Debut, ‘Filth And Wisdom’ To Premiere At Berlin Fest; Gogol Bordello Singer Featured

Madonna is anything but a quitter. Despite savaging reviews her entire life for her failed acting career, the 85-year-old pop star (pictured left) is still trying to find her big break in movies.

Not even the still-shit rotten taste of “Swept Away,” has deterred her, though this time she’s wisely changing her position and moving behind the camera.

Madge’s directorial debut, “Filth And Wisdom,” is set for its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February.
