“The Machinist” screenwriter Scott Kosar has been hired to write the script for “Vlad,” which takes an action-oriented look at Dracula, or Vlad the Impaler. Charlie Hunnam (the blonde British kid of “Undeclared” who is all grown up now and looking like a real-life Thor) wrote the original draft and told EW in December that there would be no vampires in the film. “We don’t touch on vampirism. That was my one non-negotiable area when we were developing it,”he said, though it sounds like with a new writer on board, this might have changed.

Newsflash- when there are no interesting wide releases out, no one will go to the movies. In one of the slowest sessions in recent memory, “The Final Destination” keeps the ignominious position of #1 movie in America, fending off the horrifically-reviewed stalker-comedy “All About Steve.” The 3D horror picture has taken only two weekends to cross $50 million, and by next weekend it can successfully be crowned the most successful of the series. Does this mean a fifth installment is in the cards?

Mike Judge’s workspace comedy “Extract” hits theaters today, its a diverting effort, but not quite in the class of “Office Space” — then again that one took more than a few years to achieve cult status and the mediocre, “Idiocracy” is incomprehensibly adored in some circles. So you’re asking what’s next? Perhaps wondering if he’ll indulge his darker anti-corporate instincts once again? Perhaps with a bit more snarl that the mild-flavored comedy of “Extract”?

To quote the oft-quoted Quentin Tarantino, you can’t unhear what you just heard (he was talking about Luc Besson flattering him and therefore affecting his ‘Basterds’ creative decisions). So with that sentiment in mind, you can’t unread what you just read, we hat tip Anne Thompson with the first idea expressed in her thoughts on “Extract,” which are essentially, Mike Judge can write a mean script, but directing? Mmm… maybe not so much. It’s not necessarily a revelatory thought, but it is on-the-mark.

– Principal photography has began on Michel Gondry’s “The Green Hornet” with two more actors joining the cast: the versatile Tom Wilkinson and the Tony-Award nominated David Harbour. Nicolas Cage, however, is still only “in negotiations” to join even though he is purported to play the main villain.

– Seth Rogen talks about playing the titular alien in Greg Mottola’s “Paul.” “It’s a camera that monitors my facial movements, and tracks them so they could upload it into the alien layer..Yeah, it was pretty absurd,” said the actor.

Reptilian sleazebag rocker vocalist/bassist, Gene Simmons of Kiss, who would monetize the death of a grandparent if he could, will have an appearance as a “shady lawyer” in the upcoming comedy, “Extract” according to a blurb in this weeks Entertainment Weekly (not online, but Blabbermouth has the same info).

From writer/director Mike Judge (“Office Space,” “King of The Hill,” “Beavis and Butt-Head,” “Idiocracy”) , in “Extract” Joel, played by Jason Bateman (“Juno,” “Arrested Development”), is one step away from selling his flavor extract factory and retiring to easy street when a freak workplace accident sets in motion a series of disasters that put his business and personal life in jeopardy.

The trailer for Mike Judge’s “Extract” has hit the web, and it looks fun, potentially insightful, but pretty broad. Not only do you have your lead in an unfortunate haircut, but there’s a bit about a married couple with a poor sex life, a classic soul music cue, a testicle joke (and callback) and a stoner best friend (Ben Affleck?). Pretty well-worn territory, and hard to say audiences who see this ad on the big screen won’t be afflicted with a heavy case of deja vu.

After the success of “Gone Baby Gone,” Ben Affleck’s directorial career was always going to continue, and for the better as well. In an interview with Collider, Affleck has shed light on the details of his next project, an adaptation of Chuck Hogan’s novel “Prince Of Thieves.”

Set in Charlestown, Boston where “there are more armed robbers per capita than anywhere else in the world,” ‘Thieves’ tells the story of a “group of guys who rob a bank and an armored car.”

You’ve probably read that Mike Judge’s “Extract,” the follow-up to the studio-maligned, “Idiocracy,” has been given a release date of September 4. Some are calling that release date a dumping ground, but we won’t get into that one right now.

The comedy, which stars Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and J.K. Simmons, follows a flower-extract shop owner (Jason Bateman) as he struggles through his personal and professional problems.

As the film gets closer to release and the stars of the film are asked about it, more and more details are revealed.

Mike Judge’s ‘Extract’ Gets September 4th Release Date

“Extract,” Mike Judge’s latest film, recently received a September 4th release date from its distributor, Miramax. Judge, the mind behind the cult classic “Office Space,” and the lesser cult-film, “Idiocracy,” has an unusually stacked cast for “Extract,” with Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wigg and J.K. Simmons all making appearances in the film.

The comedy follows a flower-extract shop owner as he struggles through his personal and professional problems.

Some are less than enthusiastic concerning the September release date, with Cinemablend saying that the release date will condemn the movie to obscurity much like “Idiocracy,” which was basically dumped, though we tend to think that if the movie bombs, the September release date won’t be to blame.

Ben Affleck has joined the cast of Mike Judge’s “Extract,” a workin’ for-the-man comedy that already stars Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig and Mila Kunis. Well-recognizable character actor Clifton Collins Jr. has also joined the cast.

The story is about the professional problems at a flower extracting plant and focuses on the factory owner (Bateman) who’s dealing with a streak of bad luck and accidents on the job (including his wife’s affair with a gigolo).
