It screened a few days ago during press screenings of the Rodriguez-produced, Nimrod Antal-directed “Predators” and it’ll also be in front of that film when it hits theaters tomorrow.

Frankly, we don’t love it like we loved the Cinco de Mayo trailer and couldn’t Fox give the trailer to a site that actually has, you know, a quality player?

The picture was shot last summer, but will be beaten to the screen by a Rodriguez picture that was shot afterwards (see below, “Predators”). But it’s all relative, really and that’s a normal turn-around (also, shooting two pictures at once isn’t easy).

An interview with Robert Rodriguez that sounds like it was conducted in January reveals a lot about the Austin-based filmmaker and his myriad projects. The one that piques our interest is that his sci-fi film, “Nervewrackers” appears to be something he still wants to do. In fact, as you’ll remember it was set to shoot last year, but that plan was changed last minute when Rodriguez decided to co-direct “Machete” with his longtime editor, Ethan Maniquis (which was once set to be a small-scale project, but took on a life of its own when bigger cast members, like Robert DeNiro, seemed able and willing).

Robert Rodriguez’ “Nerverackers” has been bumped off the Dimension Films docket. The utopian-sci-fi-noir set in 2085 has been dropped from the Weinstein Company-related studio’s release slate, but Dimension is well known for prematurely announcing projects, so you might have guessed early on this could have happened given the unrealistic turnaround time. And with the slate currently in front of the director (“Machete,” “Predators”), April 2010, is never going to happen.

The self-contained “story” shown in the Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double feature wasn’t rocket science, but it set up the basics of a revenge premise that anyone could swallow. Directors promise these kinds of spin-offs all the time and they rarely happen, but surprisingly enough “Machete,” starring longtime Rodriguez mainstay Danny Trejo is just a few short weeks away from starting production in Austin (free of studio interference, naturally, and before the end of July).
