Sure, “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobbie Brown led the movie, and Netflix gave it a sequel and called it a hit, but don’t they do that with everything?

But the reality is, in case you missed it, and it feels like some more cynical audiences thought it might not be for them, “Enola Holmes” was absolutely delightful.

Not only is the film set in the world of Sherlock Holmes, which is an IP that people still love, but it stars Millie Bobby Brown, who is something of Netflix royalty thanks to her role in “Stranger Things.” Alas, the film was not only a major hit, but it struck a chord with critics, as well.

And then, once they get you, the service will release data that shows that all of these expenses are well worth it, even if the data is impossible to corroborate and sounds a bit suspect. It’s the streaming way!

Charming and fleet-footed, with a dynamic sense of frisson and clever chutzpah, “Enola Holmes” is a compelling mystery and a sprightly adventure with a feminist streak that’s a perfect showcase for the winsome talents of “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown.

With fall festivals pressing on, it will be interesting to see where the film discourse takes us in the coming months, especially as some films begin to tiptoe back into theaters.

Streaming services will still dominate for the foreseeable future though, with studios as enormous as Disney even releasing a new film through that format with the upcoming “Mulan.” It’s crazy times still to love movies but there will be plenty of offerings incoming in the near future.

We’ve seen so many different iterations of the character, portrayed by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey, Jr, Ian McKellen, and Peter Cushing, just to name several. And now, it appears that the film industry isn’t done with the detective just yet. But this time, Sherlock is only playing second fiddle to his younger sister Enola.
