After bestowing the first Carol Burnett Award to its namesake last year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has chosen another comedy icon for the honor in 2020. Ellen DeGeneres, a three-time Golden Globe nominee, will be awarded the achievement for contributions to the television medium during the 77th Golden Globes telecast in January.

In a statement, Lorenzo Soria, President of the HFPA noted, “The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to honor Ellen DeGeneres with the Carol Burnett Award.

In what has turned into a never-ending drama that might shed more light at the internal issues at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts more than anything else, Kevin Hart has now clarified he will not return to host the 91st Academy Awards.  According to Deadline, Hart has let AMPAS know he feels his return would be a distraction to the telecast and the show will now move on using multiple presenters instead.

You might not be aware, but the 91st Academy Awards is currently without a host.  In one of the strangest weeks in Oscar history, Kevin Hart announced he was hosting the show only to resign three days later.  Hart decided to drop out after tweets he’d made 10 years ago that were clearly homophobic were prominently noted in a story in The Guardian and by individual voices on social media, primarily twitter.  The comedy star said he’d apologized for the comments in the past, but would not say when.
