‘Going The Distance’ Soundtrack Features Cat Power, The Cure, Passion Pit, Albert Hammond Jr. & More

After the very indie heavy soundtrack of “Whip It” last year, another Drew Barrymore comedy is on the way with another selection of hipster approved tunes.

For “Going The Distance,” the upcoming late summer rom-com starring Barrymore and Justin Long, a mixtape friendly selection of tracks will grace the soundtrack. Ex-Q And Not U outfit Georgie James stride into the majors with “Places;” The Strokes’ axe-slinger Albert Hammond Jr. contributes “In Transit” from his debut album Yours To Keep while soundtrack mainstay Cat Power struts with “Could We.” Helping to round things out are The Cure, Eels, The Replacements, Band Of Skulls, Passion Pit and more.

First Listen: Zooey Deschanel Sings In Munchausen By Proxy For ‘Yes Man’ Soundtrack

We’ve been all over this already, but once more if you haven’t being paying attention: Zooey Deschanel teamed up with San Franciscan electropunk trio, Von Iva to form the fake band Munchausen By Proxy in Jim Carrey’s upcoming comedy, “Yes Man.”

Deschanel plays Carrey’s love interest in the film and from we gather he meets her when he goes to one of her band’s shows (he normally refuses everything, but once he starts saying, “yes!,” he agrees to go to her show.

First Listen: The Eels “Man Up” From The Yes Man Soundtrack And Snippets Of Zooey Deschanel’s New “Fake” Synth Group

We gave you the details first on the “Yes Man” soundtrack, the new Jim Carrey comedy that looks like, well, a wacky Jim Carrey comedy. The film is scored by the L.A. bittersweet indie-pop group (one-man-band) The Eels (in collaboration with Lyle Workman who did the music for “Superbad”) , and the film contains 8 previously released Eels songs, plus one new one entitled, “Man Up.” We have the clip below, it’s a predictably sweet and tender little number like all of the Eels’ work.

Exclusive: Eels And Zooey Deschael Via Munchausen By Proxy Write New Songs And Score For ‘Yes Man’ Soundtrack

You’ll remember that back in August we told you about Munchausen By Proxy, a fictional band starring Zooey Deschanel and the ladies from San Franciscan electropunk trio, Von Iva that were writing songs for the upcoming Jim Carrey comedy, “Yes Man.”

Munchausen are a band which Carrey’s character is incessantly invited to see by an over-eager street promoter. Carrey’s character meets Deschanel’s by finally agreeing to see her band and then is quickly besotted at first sight (honestly, the film looks terrible with Carrey at his worst doing his rubberface shtick, no thanks).

Exclusive: ‘Henry Poole Is Here’ Soundtrack Features Badly Drawn Boy, Eels, The Bravery & Golden State

Alright, we’ve got a first look exclusive at the tracklist for the “Henry Poole Is Here” soundtrack. We know the jury is out for a lot of people on this film (for a small few anyhow), but what can we say, it looks good and looks up our alley. Plus we have a soft spot for Luke Wilson and the weirdly hot soccer mom that is Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiam” wife Cheryl Hines (Radha Mitchell and Adriana Barraza, also star)

The soundtrack, which comes out August 12 via Lakeshore Records, features the trailer song, “Believe” by ersatz rockers The Bravery, Badly Drawn Boy’s “Promises” from Born In The UK, and “Love Of The Loveless” by L.A.

As you might have noticed we really weren’t around today. So yeah, umm Four For Monday – a feature that’s supposed to be Four For Friday (four random songs from four random soundtracks for the hell of it), is being recycled here, because, well, frankly cause it’s easy.

The first track we chose was a song from Roman Coppola’s extremely underappreciated and little-seen “CQ.” We really could do a whole post about this film and its very excellent, groovy sixties-like soundtrack, but suffice to say the French band Mellow do a fantastic job of sounding exactly like Air if they were trying to be a swinging ’60s band (in fact, for a while we were kind of convinced Mellow was just Air in disguise for a while; there’s not a lot of info on the web about these guys, but they do have six records).
